Widows being treated differently because they are widows

Widows being treated differently because we are widows.  I am finding that the case with some people.  On the bright side they are not people I was very close to in the first place.  I guess when I was a couple with Smokey, people found it safe to talk to us.  I guess when I became single, I was not safe to talk to anymore.  People certainly are funny.  On the bright side, the people I am close to are still close to me.  I am lucky.  I here people drop you out of their lives when you lose someone especially a spouse.  Have you experienced anything like this?  I would be interested in finding out.

Hi Diane: There is a saying around here that Grief shortens your address book and it is so true. I will give you a good one. I have known this guy for 50 years and he called to give me some bad news about another friend. I thougt this guy was a friend. The whole conversation on the phone lasted less than 30 seconds. I have had other people whom I was not expecting really step up to the plate if you know what I mean. This other friend whom my wife and I used to go to dinner with every couple of months has called maybe 3 or 4 times but as far as going out for dinner no way. It sort of makes me feel like a social outcast sometimes. Hope this helps.

Have a good day

Hi Diane-
I agree with Ted. I have lost some friends - that were friends with both my husband and I. I don\'t know why people just disappear like that. I feel sad when it happens. I am learning to make new friends.

Yep yep...I\'m raising my hand here. My mom\'s so called friends...well..most of them, never bothered to look back again. Came to the funeral, told me they\'re like my mom and will check on me everyday. Haven\'t heard from them ever since. I don\'t want them in my life anymore. I\'m happy with the ones who stood by and still care for us and I thank God for them.
Someone nailed it correctly, \"Grief makes you rewrite the address book\"

Take care sweetheart...
