Why I'm sooo distant from my adopted family?

I so want to be part of there lives, but I feel soo distant, I don't know how to overcome these feelings, I send b-day cards to my nephews but to pick up the phone and call them I feel distant. I don't know, I worry what others think about me. I just don't feel part of there lives since I haven't lived close to them.  Call me crazy.
