*Whew* Landed an apartment I can afford.
Talk about last minute saves...
I was facing being forced out onto the streets and losing everything - or losing everything and sleeping on the floor in the storage room at my mother's place for a few days - when the sister-in-law who lives at my mother's house decided she didn't want me there - and got up off her butt to sweet-talk a local landlord into giving me a chance - and got me my choice of three small places in decent neighborhoods... All just barely within the limits of my tight budget for rent. Granted, Mom's happier because I'll be in the same town where she lives - and in a nice place she can find and feel safe visiting me - and my sister-in-law is pleased I won't be moving in to live with Mom, her, and my brother.
Sometimes, you just have to use the intolerance of others to your advantage, and smile as you say "Thankyou!" to them, knowing how it burns them to know they helped you, despite their intolerance.
All the Section 8 housing in the state - it seems - has waiting lists of 1 to 3 years, or longer.
I spent all day signing papers, getting water turned on, and sorting out switching power and natural gas services over to the new apartment - then, couldn't get a truck rental to move everything,... so I am using my pickup truck and making the long drive several times to move furniture, etc. out of one spot and into the next. But I got the key, and feel loads better - I can sleep tonight, knowing I DO have a roof to go to.
