Where's my VA disability payment?
Usually, my VA Disability Benefit money shows up in my bank account right after midnight, on the 1st of every month - but not this month. DAYS before the shut-down, my money NEVER showed up - and has still not showed up yet.
I ONLY have that to live off of.
Which means, my rent, bills, auto loan, insurance,.... all of it is late getting paid - and won't be paid until the money shows up!
I went to the VA to see what happened - and found a WHOLE LOT of other veterans ALSO didn't get their money - like me - even though they SHOULD have gotten it BEFORE the government shut-down. Talk about an angry group of dangerous people!!!
To make matters worse, the VA claims they sent the money - but my bank, along with many others, says they NEVER GOT IT.
I have gone back every day, and waited in a room full of angry veterans, only to be told a different story every time - but the ending's always the same, they claim they sent the money, the bank claims it never got there. Every day, the mood of fellow veterans is getting darker and darker, with talk of going to DC and cleaning out Congress to start totally fresh without any of the previous Congressional members alive to muck things up again.
Luckily, my landlord has a clue, and has said he'll work with me on the rent until things get straightened out. But my OTHER bills - city water/sewer, electricity, natural gas, auto insurance, auto loan, etc. are NOT as understanding!
I am running out of necessary things like food, toilet paper,.... and no money to get them, and nowhere to turn to. My mother - bless her - isn't able to help me financially, though she offers - at the expense of her own medications, food, etc. - and until now, I have tried hard to politely resist accepting her sacrifice on my behalf. I went to SSI and DSS, to no avail - they don't have money to help me either, because of the shut-down, and after the government gets going again, it could be months before DSS and SSI get THEIR acts together again!
I KNOW I am not the only person in this boat. That only makes things worse,...
