when you realize your therapist has a history and feelings too

I think so often I have come to life and to therapy with a sense

that there is some objective joy and pinnacle to be found.

It's just not true. We're all taking it a day at a time. We

each have sore spots in our work in therapy - both the therapist

and the patient.

I think maybe my therapist might have been having a bad day?

Or I just realized when she mentioned something about her upbringing

with emotional intensity in her voice it dawned on me that there was

a need to offer her respect - and not just come from a place of my

happy dog idealism and wisdom hunting. She really is a great heroic

therapist. Today is just helping me keep it real with her.

I hope you guys are having a good day. Keep on keeping on!

I have learned in my studies that we are all each others teachers and each other's students as well. There have been times when I thought I would receive some compassion but I ended up being the giver of compassion instead and that's ok. There was always a lesson for me to learn in those situations.

Agree with Arfie...therapists usually Need to have therapy, thinking too, their compassion and caring might also come from a place of pain in their own lives which needs healing, and a need to help others...thus their profession. When I was in therapy, sometimes I was giving therapist a different perspective due to my own life circumstances.
