when you live an unconventional life

when you live an unconventional life, whether it's being single as an older

person or because you have the challenges like we do - we don't have that natural

social buffer that reiterates and buffers us with our sense of identity....

it can be much more hard - and does take more effort to do that on our own

and it takes a lot of energy but it can have its positive sides, it also can be

very rewarding! But when you're living an unconventional life - you can also

have a lot more existential crisis because your moments are about you defining them

outside the box and outside of a relationship with a significant other.

"natural social buffer?"

never heard the expression before but it sounds as oxymoronic as "holy war." society is as natural as a high rise office building.

i happen to believe that every life is unique, even when others see you as wearing natural social buffer mask.
stay true to you.

Could you perhaps be referring to a buttress, rather than a buffer? Those who are more conventional may have the support of other similarly-situated individuals, while those who are more unconventional may not.

Typical or atypical, I think we each have to find our own way. : )

The older I get, when I think about mental affliction and the things I have learned to equip myself with, the savvier sometimes I feel when dealing with the general public. What I mean is sometimes you have to remember that by you being proactive with therapy and professional help it is actually giving you strength that others « without affliction » may have.

I would sincerely try to think of yourself as a normal human more than you likely do.

Hugs.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I believe you are right. We are all defined through our past and deal with it every day in very different and unique ways. Some of us live life’s that are outside the box or norm and suffer from not being accepted by those living inside the box. That is often hurtful and disrespectful.
