when living alone stress becomes like a partner

i was thinking today about some really wonderful realizations I had yesterday

and today. I have had serious mental health issues earlier in my life but for the amazing stalwart support

of my family, friends AND my own determination and attitude to learn and get well- the combination really

has helped me come to a place of the management of my life. It's like coming to know

the commonality in life that we each have our own free will to decide what to do about our struggles -

and yet we also live in community where others help support or steer us along the way -

they work with us, along side us, together.

Today while at work I was stressing out about a moment that I had with my Father this past Sunday.

I was finding myself thinking in extreme terms while i was working as a result - and I kind of realized for

a moment that I didn't really need to be stressing so intensely - but on a level it was affirming while I did the work.

Sounds like a weird way to self validate - but I guess that's what was happening as it validated and filled

the void.

I came home and felt 'blown away' by the extreme nature of my feelings that I had while at work and my trip home.

But then took the lesson of 'choosing what to do about it.' I wasn't going to feel better before leaping into

action again...and so I just thought to come on here - write a post and then get on my way - to coffee

and therapy...

I've got time and space to do some stuff here.

peace,

mark

My strictly personal experience doesn't support the notion of the "stress as a partner" being a result of living alone. My self-destructive habits of embracing stress are eminently portable and follow me wherever I go, whether I'm living/travelling alone, living with 299 roommates in boot camp or navigating my current ship of fools with my 4 crewmates. Ditto for my extreme mood swings and other psych symptoms.

The therapy tools I use to derail my self-destructive habits and symptoms are equally portable. If I can master them while I am alone, I am far less likely to take ^it^ out on the people around me.
