When bad things happen to well-intentioned runners

Dear DS diary,
So I think I've mentioned before that I had enough fun running my first 5K that I'm going for two. That's still alive. But there's no question that there are holes in my plan. My strength training is woefully short. But since my trainer is hands-off for the most part, I pretty much have to fill in that gap on my own.
This week, that hunt ended in spectacular failure. I had issues with every site I visited. The four worst ones:
At Fitness Blender, the very first workout I clicked on had a voiceover instead of the trainertalking, In my book, that's a cardinal sin; it gives me the impression that it's okay to work harder than I should. At DailyBurn, the credentials of the trainers aren't available anywhere, leading me to believe that they don't know what they're doing. At BodyRock and Betty Rocker, the trainers looked nothing short of scandalous. I got the instant impression that they used steroids to get where they are, or that my ultimate goal should be to get ripped. Neither of those match what I want to do.
But as my plan stands now, I'm basically asking to get injured at some point. I can only afford to see my trainer once a week, and that's all the strength training I get. That's not enough; from the reading I've done I need 3x a week. So right now my training is at an impasse because I can't find a place to fill in the gap that I agree with...and I can't drive so I can't get to a gym. :( And "settling for", to my heart, leaves my odds of staying with a plan at slim to none.
The 5K still has a good chance to come off...but I am going to have to be careful because I'm doing everything wrong. I'm scared. :(

Don\'t be scared, my friend...you are on an awesome path and I\'m sure you\'ll figure out the weight training thing soon. Will be getting back to your PM very soon...hugs to ya :)

Hi Summerwind81! :)

I just feel frustrated because all I really have on hand are some Jessica Smith DVDs I got recently from Amazon. And while she does do some strength routines, I can\'t kid myself; she\'s a walking workout specialist and the strength training videos she does have left me wanting. And yet I do better by following videos...so I really don\'t know.

I think I should mention that I was so pissed at Daily Burn not showing the credentials of their trainers (one of whom has appeared on NBC\'s \"The Biggest Loser\") that I called them out on it. When they indicated no intention to add them, I said no proof that they\'re certified means no confidence that they know what they\'re doing, so I\'m outta here. That pissed off the coach coordinators, but I have no regrets.

Good luck with the running and and weight training, It is not necessary to get ripped. Your main reasons to exercise should be to maintain and/or improve your physical and mental health. You should find something you enjoy doing to help cope with stress. Personally, I prefer a lot of the exercise videos on YouTube.

That\'s part of my frustration Meggie, I don\'t want to get ripped. That\'s why I was put off so much by BodyRock (and it didn\'t help that I couldn\'t crosscheck their trainers either). :(
