When a loved one has cancer...
I have tried being strong all year. So many setbacks. This year my aunt had two surgeries in hopes of relieving her back pain before it was discovered that cancer that was once in her womb has now spread to her spine. This week she started chemo and radiation therapies. A couple weeks ago, while taking time off from work, I volunteered to stay with her a couple days to give my cousins a break. She has three children that were juggling their work schedules so she did not have to be alone. It is heartbreaking to watch someone that was once so healthy and vibrant barely able to walk. She is my mother's sister. She and I have always been close.
On the brighter side, my autistic daughter started out at a new school three weeks ago, and so far it has been good. Not one potty accident! They are also teaching her life skills like buttoning her shirt. It is expensive but so far very much worth it.
My older daughter is now 13 and in grade 9. Lots of challenges ahead there.

There are many people in the spiritual community who really believe that autistic kids are gifted.....they tend to see the world the way it really is and not the way we perceive it to be!
I am not trying to sell you anything by the way but take a look at these stories:

On this one, advance it to the 12 minute mark where he talks about the real cause of autism:.....

I"m so sorry about your aunt. It is hard to see a love one go down hill. All I can tell you is to pray for strength for both of you. I will do the same for you too. And remember He does not give us any more than what we can handle. I never thought I would get through my husbands death but I did and I am still here.
And that is great about your daughter. Learning new things is great for her and I bet she is enjoying it. She may not show it but inside she may. I do not know much about autism so forgive me if I am wrong.
yep, the beginnings of the teen years. You have the strength to get through it I'm sure. Hopefully she will be a good teenager. Watch who she hangs around with. I have a nephew who is fine on his own but once he's with his "friends" he gets into trouble. And he is not a teenager any longer and should know better but doesn't.
Take care!
Linda
Thanks for your responses. So hard to know how strong we can be until we have to deal with these things.
Do the best you can with what you have now. Strength comes and builds as we use it, so stay calm, and know you are!
My dear friend, I feel so sorry for you. You are very brave and caring, reaching out to your aunt while you have your own difficult path to walk. It is heart breaking to watch a loved one slowly fading away as the cancer takes over. You are an extraordinary lady!! xxx
