What you can bear
If I had a dime for everytime someone said, God won't give you more than you can bear, I'd be rich.
So I was thinking about this today. So many of us, in so much pain, and a lot of us believe that God has given us more than we can bear? But did He?
I make an analogy. I went to the grocery store the other day. Now, we're living in the day of price cuts, of grocery stores pinching pennys. Some of them are doing this by cutting back on the number of bags they give you. So, this checker used two bags and crammed it with everything she could get in there. I'm talking cans, bottles, jars. Anyhow, I watched her put all this stuff in there and thought, how am I going to get those two bags up to the third floor? Afterall, I live in a building without elevators. So I look at her as she hands them to me. I tried to pick up the first bag and then the second. They were too heavy and I told her so. She then grabbed two more bags and put some of my items in them. Once divided, I was able to manage the bags without problems.
So basically, I told the checker that the two bags were too heavy for me. That I couldn't carry them. Before I told her that, she was happy to hand me the two heavy bags, even though it was obvious that I, a middle-aged, out of shape woman couldn't carry them. The man standing behind me, a tall, beefy guy, probably wouldn't have had a problem at all. He could carry more.
So maybe that's what we have to do with God. He won't give us more than we can bear. But He also tells us to bring our burdens to Him and leave them there. And that's how I'm getting through this. I take my burdens to God. Now, sometimes I end up getting some of them back. And sometimes I divide my day between one problem or another--sort of like the bags being divided and therefore easier to carry. Still, I'm managing better than I would have without God's help.
I guess what I'm saying is that most of us wouldn't have a problem asking a store checker to lessen our loads. We may even ask for help out to the car, or maybe have it delivered. So why not ask God to carry our burden?
Cast your burden on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail). Psalm 55:22 (AMP)

This is a good analogy and I\'m in total agreement with you. I believe when we loosen our grip on the reigns and let God take over some of the ride, things somehow do manage to fall into place. There was nothing I could do for Craig. His time on earth was up and he died. Then, I knew I had to get back to work and I was wracked with worry on finding a job. When I found this state of mind was getting me nowhere fast, I loosened up - prayed alot for assistance - and that job almost came to me.
This undoubtably has been the worst year of my life, yet I\'ve learned alot. I\'ve learned to lean on God.
I am more of a realist..and I haven\'t gotten to the point in my life where I have turned it over to God. At one point in my life I was very active in the church. Youth Group Leader...on just about every committee the church had and I did enjoy it. But for now i am angry that once finally having found happiness in my life it was taken away from me. Buddy and I were more spiritual and beleived in life is what you give and take from it...as in Pay it forward...Hugs Ellen
The sermon this Sunday was about the fact that God cuts out the dead wood out of our lives so you can bloom, blossom and bare fruit. It was really interesting sermon and sort of helped me deal with my own trials, troubles and tribulations. God loves us so much that he wants us to bare fruit for him so he cuts out the dead wood out of our lives. Still, this doesn\'t help us with everything including the loss of our husbands. I might think of what you said about the bags were easier to carry when divided into 2 more bags which makes it 4 bags you had to carry. It makes sense to me. I hope you have a grea day as I am off to another interview today. I don\'t hold my breath anymore but if something positive happens would be great for me. All the best to you from Diane B.
