what the mind tells you

I am becoming more and more aware that my mind

when it's left to my own devices, I 'project' that there is

disappointment and enmity towards me.

I pushed that aside as I know it's not true - I saw a great

post on Facebook that said "tell yourself your good because your mind

believes what you tell it." :)
I liked that - So I just drove to Costco to pick up meds...and I was listening to

classical music - and I just wasn't getting a lot out of it - and I asked myself

honestly 'why do I listen to it?" - and then I turned to a rock n' roll station

and thought about the music there - and what I appreciated about it.

I got to Costco and kind of let go of the personal mythology

and realized we're all walking through this life - reacting to what's in front of us.

I think we'd all like to be beautiful and graceful and somehow confident and self

assured, competent...and I just found a new sense of commonality and appreciation

for folks there at the Costco. I decided to just be friendly - and my sense that

something would go wrong when I talked with the Pharmacist I then

changed the attitude towards 'we're probably both wearing those hats or shoes'

and so instead of believing the negative, I just projected friendliness.

And I am a lot more at peace!

i still haven't figured out the friendship mythology, much less the social etiquettes attached, but i often think it is more than enough to just be friendly. i'm frequently amazed at how often just being friendly quiets the "monkey mind" which keeps on seeing shadows everywhere.

Thanks Arfie. I was just logging on to add to this post. My mind is starting to have me see and believe the negative again. Seeing and reading your response helps a great deal. I really agree with you.

The mythology I was talking about was just about giving up any preconceived notions about myself. It freed me up, like taking blinders off and I could see the fallibility in myself and others. Commonality

the mythology i was speaking of was, "friendship." the friendship i hear people speak of still makes less sense to me than cupid and santa claus.

"being friendly" makes a great deal of sense to me and is much easier to execute.

can i call the stories i tell myself but never share with others, "mythology.?" seems to me that mythology are stories shared with a great many people across more than one generation.

I went through so many years of public-facing customer service then transitioned into different realms, and I now find myself in totally new mindsets when I go through the rigmarole of my friendly customer interaction….

I look back and reflect on so many people who lifted me up f on the past and what qualities they had that lifted my days. And it inspires me to strive to be the same. It makes such a difference in mentality! The good part, too, is that it also cancels out the bad memories and mistreatment that really dumped me into the ditch of depression too many times I could count.

Anyway it really helps to go out into the world and authentically offer kindness. Not in any kind of Pollyanna way, but in a greater good kind of way. Smile and the world smiles with you kind of willing into action, in a sense.
