What do we dread the very worst?
Yes. The one thing most uncomfortable and embarassing but I finally got mine. I haven't had one in 85 years (yeah ok... 20) and now I hope not for another 85 more. (Though they told me 5, but I'll take it.)
I think men and women both put this on the tail end (pun intended) of their to do lists. And though you get to drink your heart out, you'll have no desire to "play". LOL

I must say, it is far less nasty than before. Thankfully, now the prep is mixed over the counter that can be diluted with clear liquid (I did Crystal Light) and had no nasty taste. The only downside was having to drag it out and get little sleep. I was not asleep on the pot or all bloated and crampy afterward. Once again I got lucky. I'm glad that is done.

Ok so I have ulcerative colitis and have been getting colonoscopies, regularly since my late 30s. At times I’ve had to get them twice a year when things weren’t going well but for the most part I have them every 12-18 months. I agree the over the counter prep is so much easier handle all around than the prescription stuff. I use Gatorade myself for the electrolytes.
I have gotten to the point where I call it a spa day. I get some good drugs, a nice nap and feel 20 pounds lighter.

LOL. Not quite sure I'd classify as a spa day.... but kinda close. I remember being wheeled in before hooked up to anesthesia and male nurse telling me to get ready for dreamland. I was just about to picture my SM when they are waking me up. Came home and took a nap. No good dreams, but good sleep so that is a plus.
They don't do it like that here. I remember when I was married and my wife had that done. They never put her to sleep and she screamed when they cut off a few pollips inside her, so when my doctor suggested I have it, I said nope! Everytime she asked I said nope! So they came out with a new type of test which is pretty expensive but it gives them alot of information about what's going on inside you. So I agreed to take it having no clue what I had to do. The doctor says watch your mail box, lol. I did and one day I got this box in the mail and I opened it, not knowing what was inside (discreet packaging) so I thought it was a gift from one of my sisters since it was close to my birthday. Inside there was a tiny little toilet and I was suppose to poop in it, put the cover on and mail it back to them! Well ..... you have to have pretty good aim and you can't see behind so I missed the hole on the tiny little toilet. Called them up and asked them what to do and they told me that the poop is spoiled and I had to poop again but in a new, tiny little toilet! Now those kits costs about $400 so my misfire was quite costly, so about a month later, I got another box in the mail and I knew what it was this time so I did it again. This time, I hit the target! Put the cover on and mailed it back. All the tests can back negative, thank God!

I just emailed my doctor about a colon cancer screening test that is similar I guess to Bob's tiny toilet....I pick it up thursday....if I am required to hit the mark I can do that I think....LOL anyway I get a $25 gift card from my insurance company for taking this test....walmart here I come...tomorrow I should be in telehealth appoint with my insurance company who wants to do a home visit...I refused the home visit but today saw it can be over telehealth and that is ok with me....I get a $50 gift card from the insurance co for that one
I had the gunk called Golitely which made me throw up before I got the entire stuff in me so I stopped drinking it at that point and the colonoscopy went well
I had a mail in one sent to try. I was having issues with hemorrhoids and figured I would have traces of blood so went for the real thing.
Also anyone with family history or past issues does require the real thing.
Thankfully they've come a long way. Rmb and I can attest to that. :)
My husband does the Cologuard method where you mail in a sample to a lab. I remind him, just so he doesn’t get too cocky, that if they ever find anything concerning, his days of pooping in a box is over, haha! Veggie you are right; once you have any issues or family history of colon cancer, it’s spa time.
Bobinmaine, years ago I had a sigmoidoscopy (just scopes part of the colon) and I wasn’t sedated. It was very uncomfortable for me as well and I slightly combative just out of instinct. I am pretty tough and have a great GI doctor but told him that was pretty traumatic. He said it was for him too which made me laugh. He agreed going forward that we wouldn’t do it that way again.
I love this conversation by the way. The up side of aging is sharing TMI and not giving a damn, haha!

I pick up my cologuard tomorrow 2pm...cannot wait to get screened because there is some gold in that poop....LOL My insurance co will give me a gift card for doing the cancer screening...

Those are when they hook You up and zap you? Years ago my blockage was so bad they shipped me in for carpal tunnel surgeries on both hands. (But a week apart)
yeah veggie I understand the week apart thing because my dad had his hands done and left nothing to the imagination....you gotta wipe with a hand so do not get both done at once....LOL
