What Am I Good At?
So many people say that everyone has something that they're good at. Whether it's being a jock, an educator, an artist, or whatever else is out there, people say everyone is good at something. I've been trying so hard to figure out what it is that I'm good at, because maybe, just maybe, if I can figure it out I won't feel like a complete failure. Well those people are liars because I found nothing I'm good at. I love doing a lot of things, but there's nothing that I'm actually good at, not currently anyway.
Throughout high school and when I first graduated I wanted it to be film that I'm good at. I wanted to make movies, but truth is I'm not good at it. I love it, but I'm not good at it.
The one thing I could think of that I was, at one poing in my past, good at is horse back riding but that's history. I love it, and I used to be good. It was the best feeling in the world knowing that I was good at it, and I wasn't the only one who thought so. I used to compete for jumping. The club I used to go to had a tournament every 2-3 months and for three years I competed in every single one. I received six first place awards and three 2nd and 3rd place awards.
The first time I competed I was about 12 or so and I was competing against people who were much much older than me (the way it was separated was based on levels of high you can jump and not on age) the first time I won I was so happy, it was the first time I felt like I had achieved something that I was proud of. But when I got towards the end of 8th grade we moved to another country and the nearest stables were a couple of hours away and it was just too hard for my parents... There were no busses and public transportation and my parents thought cabs for a young teenage girl alone weren't that safe... At first I still went on weekends, but then I made the decision to go to boarding school and I just stopped going at all and now I'm so out of shape and out of experience that I would probably not even be able to get on the horse...
So since the end of 8th grade I've been trying to search for that thing people talk about, that feeling I used to have after I won a competition, and I've only felt it one time where it didn't have to do with horseback riding. It was my junior year and I won first place in a national competition for short story writing and it was published in one of the daily newspapers. I thought about writing, but that short story, though the names were different, the experience was real. Now that I am basically doing nothing in my life, I don't know what to write about. I don't have ideas or thoughts or experiences that I could play around with to make a good piece of writing. Something worth reading.

Personally I think it is better to find something you enjoy doing rather than something you are good at.
