What a sad day

I feel guilty as I look at the tv and see the devistation in Japan. How can I continue to feel sad and left out of life when I still have mine? When I still have my health and my children and family close by?
Today I finally went and picked up Jeff's ashes. I have put it off for 2 months. I just didn't want the finality of it all. Knowing that bringing his ashes home meant that this was the only way he would ever come home to me again. I sat at my computer in our family room, his favorite room, and opened the box. And cried. How can this be the only way? Doesn't seem fair.
And then I turn on the tv and see all of the destruction and death. And what is still to come. Some of the deaths are still unknown and I suppose some will never be known. I pray that these people and their country can find some peace as the days and months go by. I know that this is a country that not many have even heard God's name. But my prayers are that HE will reach down and touch them and bring some kind of peace to their hearts. We all know that deep hurt of loss they must be feeling.
I decided today that I will try to start finding the "happy" in each day.

I loved the people I met in Japan, years ago, and liked working with them. Like you, and almost all Americans, my heart goes out to them.

Sometimes it takes something outside our selves to shake us loose from despondency. To help others. I remember a movie with Jack Nicholson, \"About Schmidt\", where a 60 plus man, recently retired loses his wife, loses his bearings, goes through all the trials and tribulations (road trips, daughter, family, weird relationships) then returns home and sits down to write a letter donating to children in Africa. When all else fails, reach out to others in need.

I know you will do well.

Life is so fragile. We need to treasure everyday. It is painful enough to loose a loved one but to never find their body in a disaster would be even more painful. You would never have closure. God is watching over them.

I too have been moved by the Japan disaster. It makes you appreciate everything so much more. I have a nephew who lives and works in Japan, it has been a trying few days to be able to get word that he is ok, unlike many others. Many no more befall any of us. Hugs Jane
