what a kooky day.....

i thought i should get out for a bit today.  it was hard to convince this little train engine that it actually could.  .....but with some patience and remembered experience of how to pull this idea off.......i worked on it for hours.

some tidying......lay down.  pretty up the hairdo.......lay down.  spit bath......lay down.  and so on.  finally i remembered that pain pills can help......so i took two with a banana and you guessed it......i laid down.  it took until after 3.....but i was finally ready to go.

i backed down the drive way....the car felt weird.....stopped and had a look.  seriously?  another flat tire.  a big old stupid nail sticking out.....make it stop!  pulled back up...called AAA......and waited.  Tim's Tires came by and a nice efficient young man had the small spare on really quickly.  off i go to Walmart to get a new tire......again the car feels weird.  but i keep going......and going and going.  the noise and the shaking are freaking me out.  i pull into a business that repairs cars....the spare is FLAT.

well double crap......this repair place is well known for being high priced, but i think i can at least ask.  instead of just looking at the tire size....they pull my car into a bay....pull the spare off.....next thing i know they are quoting me $130.00 for one stupid tire.  i already have a quote from Walmart for $54, add the bad tire disposal and balancing and it's not too bad.....just under $70.  i am ONE MILE from Walmart......it's getting late and the temps are dropping.

it is tempting to just write that check for the higher priced tire but i didn't do it.  instead i called AAA again, got them to dispatch a tow truck and thanked the good Lord that I had a new Guideposts to read.  and there i sat for about an hour and a half.  so now i'm stiff and cold and i gotta find a ladies room STAT!

the nice young man helped me up into that really high cab of his two truck......got my car loaded up......and off we went.  the walmart guys heard about my bad day and gave me another $10 discount off that tire.......so only $44 for a brand new tire.  remember that i don't drive much......so a basic tire works just fine for me.

my next project is to get a spare tire replacement, the guys at walmart suggested that i buy the metal rim from a junkyard and put a new tire on it.......wonder what that will run?  they said those little spares are just not all that great......not sure what they cost, but the current now dead spare lasted 13 years.......so it worked well for a really long time.  walmart doesn't sell spare tires......maybe sam or bruce can help me sort this out.  i wanna get that spare replaced pronto.

still can't believe this is how my day went.  i never did get bread.......i stopped at wendy's on the way home and got a chicken sandwich......it was delicious.  i've been sitting here reading a Blue Willow Inn Cookbook......which is in Social Circle, Georgia in an old beautiful mansion.  I've never been YET, but I would like to make it a goal for this year......maybe for Mother's Day or a birthday?

I've been reading the story behind the mansion and the restaurant......very interesting.  Going out despite the reasons why did help, but now I'm so achy.....feels like somebody has been beating me up.  The eye swelling is now gone.......oh, I wondered.........do you ever try new stuff out on your face and all heck breaks loose?  I got some stuff that's supposed to be all magically antiaging......hyalluric acid is in the mix.......I broke out like crazy.  I would rather be wrinkly and aged than deal with this other mess.  I broke out in six different places......color me teen acne queen. what a mess.

I have a question......is it normal for a jewelry store to keep gold when you have a chain resized?  My gold chain broke.....I'm so used to wearing my gold cross every day that I felt nekkid without my necklace on.......so I go to a jewelry store, they wanted $38 to repair it......which seems like a lot to me, but then I seldom get jewelry fixed.  I countered an offer of $30.....they accepted.

The repair took under ten minutes......I didn't realize it until I was almost home.....they kept the cut off 2.5" of 14 carat sparkly gold chain......it was enough to make a pair of really pretty earrings.  They didn't offer it to me or ask........is this normal?

I had just asked the lady for directions to their ladies room.....she said their restroom was out of order, that I'd need to head down to Subway (on the corner of this little strip mall).  I was going to go there immediately & come back but she said my necklace was ready.  SO...now I'm doing that squirming thing as discreetly as I know how.....but I'm miserable......I can't wait a long time once the gong sounds that it's time to go!  The lady hands me my receipt and a tiny velvet bag.....(my necklace (YES  and the leftover chain(NO!)  It never occurred to me that I had to ask them about it......or that they would just keep it.

Am I wrong to think that it was my gold going in the door so shouldn't it still be my gold leaving the store?  .......i don't know if i'm wrong or right to feel unhappy that they kept the chain .......but right or wrong I feel sorta robbed......do y'all know what normal jewelry store policy is? I know the last time I had a new watch the jewelry store gave me my extra links back and that was only sterling silver not expensive gold.

i'm sad that mary tyler moore is gone.......what a talent!

i'm going back to reading that cook book.....love you!  a lot of beauty does come out of chaos......y'all are so right!  i'll try to remain positive about all the stuff sitting around......if i weren't so wonky i could have a great art's n' crafts room upstairs but stairs are just not my best thing.  later you!!!!!! xoxoxo  what a kooky day.......xoxo

Nope. Jewelry stores/repair places should not keep the gold! I had to have some links taken off of one of my bracelets because it was too long, would slip over my hand. The jewelry place gave the bracelet and the links they took out back!

What a crazy day! I can relate to how long it took to get ready. Oh gosh, everything is a production, isn't it? I'm with you on Mary Tyler Moore. So sad. Sorry about the tire thing. What a pain! Love you.

I agree that the jewelry story should have given back your gold chain.
I really admire your strength and attitude in the midst of chaos Serce. I learn from you friend.
I loved Mary Tyler Moore too. A kind woman.

I just have to chuckle Ruthie. What a trip just getting out...a marathon really. I can certainly relate. I'm here lying in my bed for 3hrs, or more, just so I can make it out to a lunch invitation. However your flat tyre and then your spare going as well just takes the cake. Not your lucky day that's for sure. Hope you don't mind me laughing. Can't help myself anyway ha ha. What a day Ruthie. You are a survivor though. You did well with keeping it all affordable. You deserved a break at Wendys after all that. We have Wendys but they sell icecream. We do have Subway too.
Bit strange with the jeweller. A discount but then less gold chain. Mmm. I always receive any left over links or whatever. It is all your property still. I didn't know about Mary Tyler Moore. Things are definitely cheaper over your way. $44 for a new tyre. What a bargain !! What a day. Much love.
