went yard sailing........over the moon.

This was a grand once in a blue moon day.........in my morning journal I was dreaming of yard sailing.  I made it.....kicked the "T" off the CAN'T billboard and it was so much fun.
Sailing .... takes me away........to where I'm going. ????? Christopher Cross right?????
House 1 - 3 Nicholas Sparks novels.  They did not come w/kleenex, but I think I can manage......the lady told me which one kept her up all night long reading, which one made her cry the most and about the one was just sooooo lovely.  Can't lose....want to say winner, but that dredges up bad Charlie Sheen press, so never mind.
House 2 - baby stuff......the Momma was pregnant and Grandma was holding a baby, not quite a year......I'm no mathemetician, but she is very back to back preggers.  Trying to imagine for a moment what it would be like to be pregnant for 2 years back to back.  My two are almost 7 years a part.........
House 3 - toddler clothes & small shoes.  Very small shoes.  For very small newer planetary members. Nice couple, the 30 ish Dad and I talked about the presidential debate and the country for a little bit, but then he got really into it and well selfishly I did not want to dampen my rarely available ability to go & do with POLITICS......walking and talking in a sunny happy place is so rare lately.  I think that his bride wanted to swat him w/her magazine, did see her do a little eye rolling as he ramped up.......still all good, lots of fun to talk.
House 4 - hit the JACKPOT!  So excited, got stuff for Sara's restaurant decorating project and stuff for me too.  All of it ranges from the early 1900's to the 1960's.  SCORE.  SWEET, twirling around the maypole high flying big cool happy rush............CHAIR SPIN TIME. Let's go Sparrow........Let's go!!!
Beautiful hand stitched linens & handkerchiefs.  Done by the man's mother & mother in law. From what I gathered it was Mom's house.......Mom was in her late 70's - 80 ish.  Moving very well, seriously alert and so friendly.  I was matching her today......alert, happy and walking like I was born to do it. Her son was ???? my age or so I think.  He lives about 30 minutes away and talked about his business as a builder/developer.  Very nice man.  We talked housing and laser eye surgery and all kinds of stuff.
Pieces selling for 50 cents or a buck or two.  So soft and so lovely.  Got an old 4 foot ladder his Mom hand painted white ......thinking it will make a great display for the linens and other things, the ladder was a splurge at $3.  Hang the linens over the back rungs and put collectibles on the steps....could be kind of cool.  Got two horseshoes, yay.
This kind of yard sale find is blissful insanity to this little girl!  Yep, winner winner chicken dinner! I walked away from a 1926 handmade baby quilt.  It physically hurt to say no no Sparrow, put it down.  I had to stick with smaller ticket items or go home without.  But it sure was purty.....tulips and daisy's, such dainty stitching. 
Among the odds bits I got the coolest silver petal design candle holder, a dainty ornate silver wedding bouquet holder, a 1961 ice cream scoop (it has a catapult that vaults the scoops out, so cool).  The man remembered scooping home churned ice cream at Grandma's......picked up two vintage ice cream sundae dishes, a sparkly ruby red glass dish with cover (Sara will have to pry this out of my dead cold hands, lol!  My favorite thing today.).........and something I have never seen before. 
It is a honey holding container.  Comprised of 3 pieces, the handle, the glass egg shaped honey holder (think L'egg Egg size, remember those?)and finally, the glass piece that allows it to sit securely on a table.  (so you pick up the egg sized container holding the actual honey via the silver handle and then sit it down on the companion piece glass holder.) I have never ever seen anything like it.  sooooooooo kewl.  Gonna google research it......glass antique honey containers, huh. 
Picked up 4 antique tools, think Sara can clear spray them for display purposes........and a really old etched design glass plate with a matching two handled etched glass container.  (maybe a sugar holder or ???, it's similar but different, maybe it was used for homemade jam?.....more homework)

I flipped open to a short story called Antipasto by Mildred Fields.  A pen and ink drawing precedes the story.  A lovely woman in a very dramatic feathered chapeau, her companion is a serious fellow.....dark framed glasses, holding a pipe in one hand. There is a large candle with dripping wax....a bottle of vino, a checked table cloth.....a rotund mustached violinist providing musical ambiance.........it is an evening for romance.  Her date leans in, softly touches her hand and says, " In spite of your hats, I'm quite fond of you."
loved this, loved the drawing, loved the tender scene, loved that single line of dialogue......can't wait to read this cover to cover.  i know it may sound silly, but i feel happier than a pig wallowing in slippery wet mud....................xoxo.
Wish you could see the artwork, the gala fashions, the new silhouettes for suits, the fabrics, all of it......padded shoulders were in vogue........such teeny tiny waistlines.  Women looked so tall/swanlike/graceful/elegant ----touches of old Hollywood glamor.  Their stance reminds me of the old mannequins that were in stores when I was a kid.  Do ya kinda sorta know what I mean?  Woman wearing chignons, french twists......berets, capelets.......featuring designs for a GREATCOAT.......actual name of the coat.......love that.  I'm happily tripping on the ads.......one is for

The picture reminds me of Princess Diana in a ball gown...........but a softer hair style, head tilted downward, very shy, just the barest glimmer of a smile.......fun to flip through.  Gonna savor them like chocolates for the tougher days, when I need some paper TLC......lol. Ads now tend to be so IN YOUR FACE......bold, aggressive......I like some mystery --- a little more magic.  I have nostalgia syndrome maybe?????!! johnny sparrow five got some serious INPUT TODAY!
Everything was priced really low & then they gave me a discount on top of that, wrapped everything up in tissue paper & carried the box and bigger items to my car.  The bad experience at the car repair shop is fading and will not leave a scar.............this was so much fun.  Chatting with nice people, looking at things at a nice leisurely pace.......I can die happy tonight..........no plans too, just saying...... it is a rare thing, to get to really enjoy a lovely day.   Perfect weather.......yup, color me happy.
Tonight downtown ATL will be hectic.......the Atlanta Braves playing a big game --- this is the last night for Chipper Jones to take the field...........honoring great baseball players --- the tremendous All American Sport of Baseball for a moment.....take off your caps, bow your heads after you rise for the National Anthem and then listen to the announcer shout, "Playyyyyyyyyyy ball!"
Gonna make a burger patty and cut up some carrots and celery.  Wish I had some homemade tater salad......but it's alright, I've got ice cream for desert later..............forgive me/bear with me. It's been a long time since I walked this well so despite the havoc it will create, it was an amazing amazing day.  When they come you don't turn them down, you embrace them for all you're worth.  Happy trails to you until we meet again.......xo, dewonkified sparrow for this one glorious day .........I gotta tell you it was unforgettable......thank you God for this day.
