went to church--sort of
This has been a bad day. I've probably gone through about every negative emotion there is, and then some. Saw my therapist today. That helps. Been trying to hook up with a bereavement support group. My hospice has 2--but neither of them meet this week. I checked out the website for the hospice where I'm moving and they had a 6-week Parental Grief Support group starting next week. Perfect--called them and was told they weren't having the group because they didn't have enough people sign up. I felt like screaming at the woman--take it off your website then! Then she started telling me about a Traumatic Death group, which she said had a lot of parents in it. I was trying to explain that was not what had happened to Leslie, and she interrupted and said "Your daughter did die, right?" How I remained civil after that stupid comment is beyond me. No, I'm doing this because I want a fun night out. Really?
There is a group not associated with hospice that meets the first Wed. of the month. Check that one out. It's only a few blocks from my new apartment.
I came home tonight and played solitaire online. Most of the night. Then around 10:45 I just felt I needed to get out. Got in the car and drove a few blocks away to a church which I know has a pretty garden. Had kind of a one-sided shouting match with God. Why? Why wasn't Leslie diagnosed earlier? Why was she so pig-headed about going to the dr.? In a good world she would have been diagnosed before the damage was too severe. She would have stopped drinking and maybe turned her life around and still be here. Why? Yelled about Leslie, yelled about Cliff, yelled about how stupid the whole world was. Sitting in a church garden yelling at the sky. Hey. whatever helps. I do feel somewhat calmer now. And no one came to cart me away...
Took my bedtime cocktail of 3-4 Benedryl, 50 mg of melatonin, a clonazepam. Had a glass of wine before. With some luck I'll sleep 5, maybe even 6 hours? Maybe one morning I'll wake up and not immediately be socked in the stomach by misery. Meant to take a shower tonight--I have the morning off tomorrow--an eye dr appt at 9:30 then meeting Jason and Lena for an early lunch before I have to go to work at 1. Maybe, unlike Saturday, I can get through this without calling my granddaughter Leslie. The 3 L's. Leslie, Lena and Lucy. 2 L's now. I'll probably be up at 5:30 or so anyway--take a shower then. Today before I went to the therapist I wiped myself down with some wet wipes. Forget when I took a shower last. Really need to do that tomorrow.
Forgot about picking up the dog again. His sitter has been wonderful and very understanding, but I need to say I'm going to pick him up one of these days and actually do it. Maybe it would be good to have him around. He'll at least make me go outside and get some exercise. I can only imagine how confused he is.
Starting to get sleepy. Read a little bit and see what happens. Another fun day tomorrow........

OH have I YELLED at God, at the universe, at "that" driver, and on and on. I'm a terrific yeller, LOL! And yes, it helps...me. It's a release I suppose, getting all that energy out. Over the years, I find myself much calmer and not needing to yell...as much...but in those early years, yep, let it rip!
I understand what the lady was trying to say, I think, by asking such a stupid question, but I mean really! There was a better way than that!! I'm sure she meant that it WAS traumatic just by the very reason that you lost your daughter. But seriously...."your daughter did die, right"....good lord woman!! I'm sorry.
Perhaps having your fur baby with you would bring some comfort, some exercise, and some enjoyment. I have a little fur ball who is at my side practically 24/7, and he has helped me SO much. And I'm sure your furry fella misses you and would love to be with you more. They are very in tune to our pain and emotions I think. And they are great unconditional lovers of their humans!
I hope you slept well and I hope today is a peaceful and gentle day for you my friend.
Tight heart hugs,
Teri
Getting it "out" however we can do it is vital and I'm glad you found that place where you could. It's ongoing in many ways and getting it out there for me happens here too as my finger tips type away and I might feel as if I have "nothing" to share and then am amazed at what came out of me.
My fur babies have saved me and actually our last fur baby who shed her furry earth suit was Jordan, a mix, and fifteen years old. She was the last dog that Douglas had touched and loved and being with her always gave me a sense of him. I know he was the first in line to "catch" her when she breathed her last breath. I could feel it. I'm with Teri, and feel that having another to care for might be very healing for you. He needs you and you need him to share this loss of Leslie together.
Gentle care and hoping that you got some rest. I awakened at three AM for a very long, long time as that is when we got the call about our son. Sometimes I still do a decade later.
Hand in hand, Heart to heart,
XO Joanie
Sue, I'm sorry that woman made such a stupid comment. Things like that just make this journey that much more difficult.
Sleeping was hard, waking was worse, it's all hard when your child passes away. But the pain will soften over time. You're doing so well writing your feelings out here and I did so much screaming at first. I was just so angry at life for kicking me in the teeth. The anger, sadness etc threatened to overwhelm me at times but I fought by writing, talking, finding ways to honor Eddie's life. Then it was my turn, to support the newer moms and I knew that is how we all help each other on this journey towards healing. You're not alone.
My fur babies give me comfort and they give me the ability to nurture. I bet your dog misses you and you probably could use his unconditional love right now. Maybe having him home would be helpful.
I wish you a peaceful night.
Love to you and dearest Leslie, Linda ♡
