We Won!
All the door knocking paid off. My neighbour and I went to Druh's campaign office this evening to hear the results of the election. For quite awhile it was a bit of a horse race. But in the end, Druh won with a decent majority. Our favourite rock star mayor was also reelected with a landside. So I think we are good for the next 4 years!
Our mayor was elected 3 years ago in an upset. He is relatively young, Ismaili Muslim. a great communicator, and Harvard graduate. He is a phenomenal man who is able to relate to everyone from the trash collector to the queen. When we had the worst flood in our history, Naheed was on TV every day informing the public. He asked for people to volunteer to help the residents who had their houses ruined. He expected 200 people or so. He had over 1000 people respond. It was amazing how people pitched in. If anyone knows Calgary, every summer we have "the greatest outdoor show on earth", The Calgary Stampede. It is a 10 day exhibition where all the executives from the oil towers downtown don plaid shirts, blue jeans, and cowboy boots and get drunk. It is quite the show. They have a rodeo, chuckwagon races, and midway. People really do come from far and wide.
Back to Naheed Nenshi, our mayor. Our flood occurred about a month before the stampede. The stampede grounds were under water, including our NHL Hockey arena which is located on the Stampede grounds. When the water went down, we were left with a mess of mud. Everyone figured the Stampede would be cancelled. Mayor Nenshi assured us that the Stampede would go forward. People worked day and night and, except for the use of the arena, the greatest outdoor show on earth happened.
So, I am quite verbose, but I am glad that our mayor was reelected. His and Druh's vision for Calgary are quite aligned. I feel much better now.
So enough of that. Did I tell you that the wine and wonderful food was great at the party? You probably figured that out by the rambling message!! Now I am tired so will retirel

Feels like a great thing and anyone who can relate to people and be on a level playing field with them is my kind of person.
All your hard work paid off and glad the party was fun too.
Way to go and won\'t even get going on the mess the US is in. I expect many to be moving to Canada and abroad after this last horrible fiasco.
Love your way and smiling right along with you.
XO Joanie
Good for you - if more people stood up, got involved and took notice of politicians and their principles perhaps we wouldn\'t have the gerry rigged mayhem we do in the US Congress. Your mayor sounds great!
So glad your candidates won Marlene. You are very active in all of life. I love reading your journals.
Hugs,
Terry
