we all want stuff

I was at the pub a little while ago.

I treated myself to a nice tall drink and a plate of cheese curds, followed

by a diet coke and a whipped cream topped bowl of ice cream.

It got me to thinking. I am very aware that I am who I am - flaws and all  - I know I have my faults

and grumpiness - but after accepting that fact that I had all these sides - rather than idealized perfectiong -

made communicating with the folks

at O'Lordans so much more real and disarming. My outlook seemed to attract folks and their

warmth - rather than the opposite. I found myself on the ride home - fighting myself -

as the ego or whatever you want to call it - this thing inside me that kept trying to creep

in to upset me - it was like a power hungry source that wanted to give me pain.

And block my attention for how to get on in the world = and instead contend with it and it's

high flying enthusiasm -

I know this may sound like a total turn of attitude - but please allow me

my experimentation - As I drove home - I thought of all the ways we need to be considerate -

and yet then also we have to consider our own wants and desires and survival  - It was all too much to

consider and juggle at one time ....I thought about when I had studied Buddhism - and how the chanting for what you want and the looking

directly at the altar - rather than with head bowed - really made sense -
It should be in religion that we go for what we want - by chanting we are incarnating the responsibility that's

our for manifesting those desires - and it's our responsibility to do this in Buddism - to follow through -

as well it felt like that we should have a religion that keeps us feeling

like we are yet another human being 'wanting things' and not just objectified to the point of humble

inaction because of our potential transgressions. I dunno - and not human since we are not 'perfect' - make sense?

- that's what I am thinking about right now -

Just food for thought - or a big chew for you Arfie :)

i am not seeing the change in your attitude, markus questionarius. what i see is the uncovering of the true you you have been hiding behind that royal we. you are still using the royal we more than fits my personal perfection, but methinks i might like that true you a see peeking through the royal we cover-up. methinks. observation in progress.

food for thought? a big chew? two names for the same action in arf world. i am always the slowest eater at any dinner table, literal or metaphorical. small bytes and long chews are my modus operandi of life. metaphorically, i needs to think about EVERYTHING i ingest. literally, over-thinking comes all too naturally for me. literally, my tummy ties up in knots when i try to eat fast. thorough chewing required, with only bad teeth to work with. and i ain't metaphoring around.

It’s really crazy Arfie my appetite can become so all consuming and unbridled (it can feel like a source of strength), I’m getting that the way my mind works it really is the bipolar quality of the illness that can be high octane fueled.
Perhaps some Christian stoicism mixed in really is the answer for me.
Knowing we all have appetites yet also the respect that each of us has a job to do.

I wonder if I can meditate through it much like the guy who turns into the Incredible Hulk if he doesn’t be mindful about his rage, in this case my raging appetite

I think having a vantage on my appetite and sense of respect for others will help me grow
With my sense of internal values. My doc said an interesting wisdom the other day, that ‘when we are young we have very much an external focus for our identity but when we are older we operate from more from a sense of values and systems.’

Big hug Marky

I'm glad that you got out for a nice treat

I think you are spot on with the 'high octane fuel' along side of what's important to you

My old family doctor swore by mindfulness meditation
She said it really helped her to get through life...xo

Thanks Jan, I also think for those moments when we have to self sacrifice after being so mindful , it’s very hard and yet a sense of humor about it is a way to cope with the pill
