Video Vault: The Superstars, 1980 UK Final
First, for anyone who wanted to know: My ethics professor told me today that she has had a few students come to her before with concerns about material for some of the programs on that media project, so my request was not unusual. We knocked the list down together to about five shows that I can bear, and next week I'll probably know which one I'll be watching.
If I don't find out by then, I'll have this to watch in place of the Super Bowl. Someone on Youtube (not me) was kind enough to post the 1980 final from the UK version of...The Superstars!
I miss The Superstars, personally. Used to watch it on NBC Sportsworld in the '80s. But the US version can't hold a candle to its UK counterpart, which featured several events that were actually gym exercise tests, so you got to see why the competing athletes were actually invited in the first place.

If you're not familiar with The Superstars, here's the Reader's Digest version of how it works. Athletes, in this case 8 of them, compete in ten disciplines (gym tests included). Each competitor competes in seven of those events, no more, no less. Points are awarded at the end of each event based on final finishing position, as follows:
Winner: 10 points
2nd place: 7 points
3rd place: 4 points
4th place: 2 points
5th place (if applicable): 1 point
6th place and lower: nothing
In the case of a tie the points are split. So a 2-way tie for 2nd would award 5 1/2 points to both athletes (4+7, cut in half).
Highest total after all ten events wins.
