Video Vault: The Eagles -- In the City

This Video Vault, for me, has a personal attachment.
Yesterday was an absolute crusher for me...for all the wrong reasons.
I found out that the two people who have been interning over the summer at the pharmacy aren't coming back for the fall.  This is important because I know what the workload is like there; I've intentionally stacked my classes up for Tuesday-Thursday, except for a lab I have to take that meets Friday morning so that my supervisor knows I'm available Monday-Wednesday.
But 'm looking at the list of symptoms I have so far, and I'm starting to realize that the best option for me -- therapy -- is now impossible logistically.  It would have been hard to do anyway with my trust issues, but the setup I am now stuck with -- remember how I said a while back I have to protect my B option of pharmacy tech because I may well need it -- means the option is slammed shut, kaboom, that's it man.  (I can't drive, there are no therapists within walking distance of my home, and I'm not going out at night consciously without body armor because the Boston area has a bad reputation for murders that is still true today.)
This means I have to ask one or more DS friends to play conselor for me...and really, what are the odds that that's going to work out?  Probably better than I think, but there's never a guarantee that they're here when I need them, that's a fact of life.
This song, "In the City" by the Eagles, off the album The Long Run, captures the feeling I have now of feeling trapped and having no idea about what to do from here, where to go from here.

Somewhere out on that horizonOut beyond the neon lightsI know there must be something betterBut there's nowhere else in sightIt's survival in the cityWhen you live from day to dayCity streets don't have much pityWhen you're down, that's where you'll stayIn the city, oh, oh.In the cityI was born here in the cityWith my back against the wallNothing grows, and life ain't very prettyNo one's there to catch you when you fallSomewhere out on that horizonFaraway from the neon skyI know there must be something betterAnd I can't stay another nightIn the city, oh, oh.In the city
In the city
In the city

Actually, lots of people survive without therapy,it can be done. The drawback is that you don\'t improve or get well very quickly. You are much more likely to reach your goals by a long circuitous route where as a therapist can guide you through the healing/developement process. As long as you are not hurting/a danger to you/anyone else you can continue your schedule and just educate yourself further about your condition.Perhaps as you research different materials you may come across a local support group or some locsl activity that is free and on a regular basis. This is what the local paper is still good for. Most of the newspapers and magazines have gone online but your small town paper will always remain the only true source of information in your communiy.Check it out!Ok chat with you later!

Friend, you can get by without therapy. It may take a lot longer, I definitely agree with that. But if you really can\'t get there, it\'s not the end of the world...I would think it\'s just a matter of becoming very self-disciplined about looking into things yourself.

And to keep on looking...there might be resources out there you\'ve never heard of before :)

Always here to talk if you need, and wishing you peace as always :)

therapy with someone trained and licensed does have its benefits as long as you can find a good one. The finding of a good one can be incredibly difficult as well. The thing about DS friends is, they may not be licensed therapists or councellors, but they are willing to listen. A professional one won\'t really be there when you need them either, they will be there for an appointment only. Unless you admitted yourself to a psychiatric hospital. So really the DS option is cheaper and where it may or may not be more or less effective, the end goal may still work. Far as not driving, there are some therapists that will do webcam internet meetings with you. I have done that in the past with mine because it is a 2.5 hour drive and i simply couldn\'t keep taking the time off work. So after i went in a few times, it was then by net for all the meetings. there are options. there always are.
