Viatris settles lawsuit for EpiPen
Viatris, the company that makes the EpiPen allergy treatment, has agreed to settle a lawsuit over the monopoly it has over the product. The lawsuit claims that the company engaged in a scheme to delay the entry of generic EpiPens. The settlement does not include any admission of liability and remains subject to court approval. リパクレオン
Viatris, formerly known as Mylan Pharmaceuticals, agreed to pay $264 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that it abused its monopoly over EpiPen auto-injectors to increase their prices. Viatris indicated in its quarterly report that the settlement did not admit to wrongdoing. The original damages sought by the plaintiffs were $1 billion. The company allegedly agreed to delay the release of a generic EpiPen, allowing Mylan to raise the price of EpiPen without any competition.
EpiPen is a life-saving auto-injector that can be used to treat an allergic reaction quickly and effectively. It is sold by Mylan and Pfizer, and the package was only $100 when Mylan acquired the rights in 2007. It now costs about $650 without discounts.
