UTI Infection

About 2 weeks ago, I went to a local clinic with symptoms of a urinary tract infection. The doctor took some urine and then gave me a prescription for a week of antibiotics (Noroxin). I felt okay during that week so I thought the meds must be working. After stopping the meds the symptoms came back with a vengeance. I couldn't take it any more, so I went back to the clinic this past Saturday. What I learned was very disturbing. The clinic had run a urine culture, but had not called me to say they had the results and the meds they gave me were ineffective against what I have. The urinalysis revealed 2 different bacteria, one of which was only sensitive to the IV drug Gentamicin (sp?)
With notes in hand, I headed to the ER. They wanted to keep me to continue administering the IV drugs. When I mentioned the name of the doctor that treated me for gestational diabetes, they decided to call her to get me admitted as her patient. She didn't see the need to hospitalize me, but I have had to go every day for the IV drugs since then.
I got three days left to go for the drugs. I am still really pissed with the walk in clinic for not giving me the information they had sooner, so I could be treated sooner.
Hopefully, I am now on the road to recovery.
Hugs to all,
Rosa

I\'m sorry to hear that Rosa, I have had 3 of them since last summer. Just was on antibiotics for another one. The first 2 I went a bit crazy since the infection went all though my body. It messes with the mind if it gets real bad with me. This time I caught it before it got to bad. Went and gave another urine test this am. Have not heard a thing about it yet. The first 2 I was admitted and had IV antibiotics since it affected my mind. They also give ya a MRI to make sure it\'s not a stroke. I hope you live close to the hospital. The one I go to is 14 miles away. I do hope you are on the road to recovery. Hugs!

@ stranded - Don\'t worry about not keeping up. I have been having a hard time making time for ds lately. Thankfully, my anxiety is still pretty much under control. I will have to stop by more often.

Thanks so much for your support.

@ Vinlin - Luckily the private hospital ER is about 15 minutes away. The doctor said if symptom get worse, I would have to go the ER and get admitted but so far I have been okay except for the pressure of \"having to go\" all the time. She was also considering a CT scan but wanted to wait until the antibiotics were over because both the contrast/dye and the antibiotics can take a toll on the kidneys. One day at a time....

Thanks for your kind words and hugs.
Hugs back at you.

I hope you are better soon. It\'s horrible that the clinic didn\'t call you will the information. You could have felt better much sooner w/o taking finishing the other antibiotic.

I really hope you recover fully soon! What I find really disturbing, is that our medical science has advanced so much that almost any medical condition can be treated successfully. But people\'s lack of caring about the sick, and their crave for more money, cause countless sick patients to suffer unnecessary! We have the same problem here Iin South Africa. It is a shame for our modern civilization!!

Lots of \"get well soon\" hugs to you, Rosa! xxx
