urgent requests.......thank you!
Hi,
My son's good friend & co-worker Linda has a lovely daughter named Carrie. Linda is our age......Carrie is probably around Sam's age. Somehow, no details as yet.......but somehow Carrie was burned. She was transported to Grady Hospital downtown Atlanta. They have the best critical care burn unit in our area........please pray for this daughter.......for Linda, for this family........and for those in care of Carrie.
My sister Carol......has had a unique and difficult history. Three months ago she met some strangers at a restaurant........and within the expanse of that conversation made the decision to leave the confines of her son's rental house and roommates.......to go and live with strangers. She has a Traumatic Brain Injury and she suffers with bipolar disease. She is very resistant to many things ........so yesterday when she called me she sounded dazed, out of it......confused, scared and completely freaked out.
She shared what has been going on.......it was not good. I won't go into it with y'all now.......but there she is in some random place.......an apartment with questionable people who have taken advantage of her situation.......and she needed to be moved asap.
It was a very vitriolic day.......and situation. It involved tears and yelling and more yelling. At one point we were both yelling......I'm not proud of losing it........that sister of mine is stubborn and then again, so am I.
I spoke at length to one of the case workers as her case worker was otherwise engaged. I also left him a voicemail. Since then they "created an opening" into a program that offers 24/7 care, yet is still a residential like environment. They will provide all her needs......food, counseling, a roof over her head and a floor beneath her feet. They will make sure her meds are right.........she signed the paperwork.
She SIGNED the papers........she confessed to me that as freaked out as she was having to ask her sister for help......again, that she has a very very hard time doing so.........and when I yelled she still knew that I loved her........and that she had completely freaked me out after sharing just how dangerous a situation she was in.
Sigh.........I am totally about respecting the rights of every person. I am about it.........and if there are times when I don't have that ideal together I am in a place of learning about that.......I don't want anyone to be able to take away someone's rights or freedoms.........but it's very difficult when your loved one has these conditions, makes bad choices.......and puts herself in harms way repeatedly and you can't protect her from herself. I had a long talk about how to approach Carol.......and today she told me that she could see and hear my voice within the case worker.....that his demeanor had changed, that he was both serious and intent on her BEST INTERESTS....and she signed the paperwork to admit herself to this program.
I am so releived, thankful and grateful that for the next little while, she will be in a safe place. She will have food, air conditioning from the plus 100 degree temps in Arizona........that they will take a close look at her meds, that she will get counseling. The counseling aspect alone is so important for her growth. I am happy.........happy happy happy!
Thank you for listening, for prayer in care of Carrie at Grady Burn Unit......for her mother, father and all of her family ........for my sister Carol being admitted to this program this very day. She is scared.......I know because I spent several hours with her today talking her through it all.....being with her........being a sister. God is with us.......who can be against us?
Hugs, love, prayers and care for you and your day!

A very brave move. I\'m so happy you could get your sister into such an appropriate place. My late brother had bipolar disease and a few months before he died, he had a manic attack and I had to get him into the hospital on short notice. After they stabilized his meds, I told him that he HAD to listen to me in my phone calls. I couldn\'t afford to fly back on the spur of the moment and I was not going to be the one to get him into care again. At first, he HATED me. And I love him so. It was awful. I\'m glad your experience was better and that your sister was so cooperative and easy about it. Time will help.
I\'m so sorry to hear about the young lady being burned. I am sure that it is very painful and the recovery is excruciating. She will be in my prayers.
The conversation with your sister sounds incredibly difficult. With her having a brain injury and bipolar, it has to be almost impossible to reason with her. She literally can\'t think clearly. It has to be frustrating. Breathe. Just breathe.
Love,
Heather
Oh, sorry, I missed the last part where you said she was to be admitted into a program. That is a relief! Love you.
Oh gosh! Burns are so painful! I have just now prayed for pain relief for her!
as far as your sister? Job well done! Sometimes we have to make some noise to be heard and you made noise she needed to hear.
It will be ok, Ruthie! Put your hand in the hand of the man who stilled the water.....xo
