Update on cost of surgery for Sophie
I just called the vet back and asked if there was any way I could have the name of the surgeon to see if I could get an idea of cost. He called the surgeon and called me back right away and said they wouldn't give him a definite quote without seeing her but that the cost will be between $2400 to $2800 and that will be both legs together. So now I have a number. I have been planning on quitting smoking for awhile so now I really need to and take that money and set it aside and hope to have the money in a year or so. Would/could be quicker if kids get jobs and help save a little. To get an exact quote she would have to go in for an assessment and it is $110 for that. So my vet said just to call him when we think we are ready and he'll make the referral.

I don\'t know how much \"regular\" vet visits are up your way, but the costs you mention seem pretty fair for dual surgery....still....it\'s a heck of a lot of money.

hard to do alone. I can\'t use the meds, picking up
the patches, again, to see if this time I can stick to it. Darn stress sets me back each and every time!!!
Sure hope the kids will double their efforts to get jobs so you can get to the surgeon sooner rather than later.....just maybe, considering your
income, he might let you make payments?

I think it is pretty good for doing both legs together. Because I have heard that much online for just one leg. Our regular vet is about the same as most here but there are some that are cheaper but not near where we live and can\'t take her on the bus. I was so thankful seeing the vet and including her medicine and first injection was only a $120. Then it about $25 a week for the injections for 6 more. but it will be okay because it is spread out enough.
No unfortunately the surgeon wants payment up front they say on their website no payment plans, and even if they did I would unlikely be allowed with still being in bankruptcy. Ya, I really need to quit. I was going to try for tomorrow but may wait until May 2 and buy the patches too. If they help enough with the nicotine withdrawal that might be enough. trying to go cold turkey really fucks me up.

You will get there with the smoking. My poor husband has been trying to quit for awhile now. He does well and then something stressful occurs and understandably he has to smoke. He is realizing the triggers and has found that Chantix along with the Blu e-cigs have helped him the most.
On a different note I hope Sophie feels better very soon. I am so glad that your vet is being so reasonable with the prices. Mine is the same when she gave me the estimate for my Maggie\'s nose problems when I went to pay she did not even charge me for the main part of the nose flushing. I was so grateful. They know how much we love our pets, especially when we bring them to them for help and peace of mind. Will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I do understand about the money issues. I have been unable to work for a year and a half now due to chronic illnesses. We are taking it one day at a time and hoping in time that I will be able to go back.

I read both this entry and the last one, but felt I should leave a comment on just one since it looks like I can put them together.
First and foremost: I am very sad to hear about what happened to your dog. :( I have to agree with you that it\'s not good that they won\'t do a payment plan because otherwise it would be much easier to have Sophie feeling better ASAP. I know how people tend to feel regarding their dogs so I can only imagine how hard this has to be for you.
You have so many things that just seem to go wrong for you that honestly, it\'s not fair. This latest one only has the effect of piling on to what is already there...it\'s a hard position to be in, between money issues and problems with the kids among other things (I realize that perhaps I should not have said this here). I feel where you are coming from with all this.
Quitting smoking is hard...it requires a good plan to slowly cut back and having lots and lots of support to help you do so. The wife of one of my colleagues once tried to quit cold turkey, going straight to a nicotine patch, shortly after marrying her. Saving everyone the details, that did not end well for him; it was not long before he was back to smoking again. I can be supportive of you on these fronts if you want it.

Journeyman....thank you so much for your thoughts. You are right it is just one thing after another and honestly I am getting really tired of the battle. You are right about Sophie, she is my baby and I just hate seeing her in pain and having trouble walking. It sucks big time they won\'t do a payment plan because if they would I would have her get her surgery asap. I feel down too because my mother again said that it is ridiculous for me to think of spending that much on \"just a dog\". I don\'t get along with my mother anymore.
Thank you for the offer of support on quitting smoking. It\'s said I struggle with it. I have quit before but I had just had enough, but all this stress is making it harder to try. The longest I went was 2 days.....on the second day I cried all day and felt all funky in my head so of course bought more. I was thinking of trying the patch.
