Update
Gotta keep my girls updated... Today is Tuesday??? Okay, yeah, checked my phone.
Our first night in a regular room was pretty rough. Steve was in a lot of pain in his abdomen. They ran all kinds of tests, to make sure there wasn't an obstruction, or damage to internal organs, including his heart and it all came back clear. He was full of gas...sounds funny, but his stomach was distended and hard as a rock. He had not been to the bathroom for 3 days. Little by little, uhm...the problem cleared. The next night his fever spiked and his white blood cell count went up, so his medical release was retracted, in other words, the clock was reset on the 72 hour hold Baker Act. So, it is looking like Thursday will be his release date.
He had a great night last night. He didn't sleep any, but was up and down to the bathroom...still clearing out his "problem", but at least he had no pain and no strange fever or white blood cell issues. He was hot in his bed. My sofa bed it right beside the window so he wanted my bed and we switched, lol. From around midnight until 6:15 this morning, I was out like a light. I woke up, saw the clock, and shot outta bed like a rocket wondering what I had missed. My poor husband had quietly tended to himself during the night and let me sleep. So I raced home to check on the furbabies. They were delighted to see Mommy, we called Daddy, as he likes to talk to them over the phone and listen to them barking. Now they are passed out, I assume from the relief of having Mommy home. The drive to the hospital is an hour, so we just decided to get a pet friendly hotel room for the rest of the stay. Check-in is at 3pm, so I am staying home until then, then we will all 3 make a temporary move to La Quinta 5 minutes from the hospital.
This has certainly been a challenge, but we have learned so much from this experience. After we get through this we will probably sleep 3 days straight through. It is finally cold here so we can't wait to snuggle together with our furbablies in our own bed. Can't wait to watch the news together...little things mean so much when you are deprived of them. I am SO sick of cafeteria food, although I must say it is exceptional for a hospital...but expensive, at least $15 a meal, including breakfast and I am not used to eating the way I have been eating. I am either bloated or have gained 10 pounds since this started, I can't get my wedding rings off or my boots zipped up, and I have always had such skinny chicken legs. JUST CAN'T WAIT for things to get back to normal, So very, very, grateful that is an option.
As always, thanks for all the love, prayers and support.

I'm grateful to read that things are working out as they are and you are so wise to be closer to the hospital rather than an hour away. Your fur babies will be happier and you will have less anxiety about them.
The simple things, the little things of life that do mean so much when one is in such a "foreign land" as a hospital. Make sure you are keeping hydrated and drinking lots and lots of water as some of what you are talking about could be that as well?
Thank you for keeping us updated as you have been as it means a lot to know how things are in this moment. Even though the timing of things might seem a bit confusing, the added time in the hospital and time to think as well in those quiet moments might be just what is needed for Steve.
Sending lots of love and continued prayers for healing and well-being.
This is a Thanksgiving season that takes on an entire new meaning, doesn't it. Thank goodness for this outcome and for the ability to get help, add more tools and heal as individuals and together.
XO
Thankful that Steve is on the upswing....Thankful for you, Gina. Hugs and love to you today!!
Gina, that distended feeling can be very painful. Glad that is "moving along" now for Steve. So happy for you both that he is on the mend and although there's been a delay, he will be home soon with you & the fur babies. I think you had a great idea to take the dogs & stay close by the hospital.
You may be a bit swollen from the change in food, routine & the stress. Soon things will be back the way they should be and your body should settle down. Continued healing for dear Steve and take care of you too. This has been such an ordeal for you. Love & hugs, Linda ♡
Sometimes learning can be painful. Glad that things are progressing!!!
