Turning the corner
Last night was my brother's birthday, so after a very insightful appointment with the counselor, I went over to my parents house. Lo and behold, my dad's inlaws were there discussing their trip to Vegas (the place where it feels my world came to an end). It was rough, but I made it through. I went home and had a great conversation with my wife. We talked about the affair, and why she didn't allow it to become physical... how I was the only man she ever wanted in that manner... how she didn't feel that what she was doing was truly an affair, but just a deep desire for someone to talk to about stupid things because I was so wrapped up in work all the time. We laid in bed and spoke about why we are together... She shed some tears and so did I. We have both done stupid and hurtful things, and yet somehow we are still together, because we are really meant to be, and while painful, the affair has shown us both how foolish we have truly been. We are fortunate to have each other. We made love, but it was something more. For that time, I felt transparent to her, like she could see inside me. We were both two parts of the same thing, and where one part ended and the other began were blurred. It gave me solace... solace that no matter what either of us have shared with others, it was nothing that could approach that. It makes what occurred with my W and the OM seem so insignificant and petty... I feel like I have turned a corner, and if you turn enough of those, you end up where you started... in a wonderful marriage with someone you truly love.
