Trying again
I wrote a journal yesterday and it disappeared.
It was a rather strange day yesterday. We had tornado warnings. It stormed all around us. Many farmers had their crops ruined by hail the size of baseballs. Car windows were smashed and rooves were ruined. The tornado touched down just out of the city. Luckily there was not much damage - uprooted trees etc. I know many moms live in 'Tornado Alley' so are all to familiar. Tornadoes do happen here, but not very often. The storm chasers were delighted!
Around 5:30, my friend Lorraine called. She was distraught. A woman jumped off an overpass on to the highway. She said she saw legs dangling so slammed on her brake just before the woman fell in front of her car. Needless to say, the poor woman did not survive. She was 51. I just feel so sorry for her family.
I was worried about Lorraine spending the evening alone so we went to a movie. We chose the most ridiculous one we could find - Trainwreck. It was the perfect movie to get her mind off the image of a woman dead on the highway in front of her. Actually we quite enjoyed the movie - a little bit raunchy and very funny.
Today Joe and I walked to a grocery store about 2 or 3 miles away. Joe's foot was getting sore and the clouds were building so we got a 'Car to Go' for the trip home.
Lisa: I really miss you. We would have talked for ages last evening and I know that you would have called Lorraine and had the words to soothe her. I miss you always and love you forever. Mummy

OMG what a horrible thing to see for Lorraine. It was a good idea to go to the movies after that to get her mind off of it. How is Lorraine doing health wise Marlene. Isn\'t she your friend with lung cancer?
We get several tornadoes every year in this area, it really scary. I think Arkansas (at least the northern half) is part of tornado alley. We have a storm cellar and Jim and his family join us when need be.

What an awful image to encounter, poor Lorraine. You are a good friend to spend the evening with her. It sounds like a strange day overall.... I am glad you and Joe got a car to get home so that you were out of the storm and Joe was not in pain.

Needing friends just like YOU dearest Marlene. What a horrible incident to have witnessed for Lorraine and I remember that Lorraine is a dear friend of yours and is she the one that you bake birthday cakes for or she bakes for you? For some reason this is coming into my mind...
Loving care and I was touched that Lisa would know just the right words to soothe her. I understand the missing and the longing.

Oh Marlene, what a horrible thing for your friend to have witnessed! I\'m so sorry for her! That was so thoughtful to take her out and get her mind off of that scene. You are truly a great friend.
I hope that you suffered no tornado damage. Those warnings must be very scary.

Your poor friend how horrible. someone jumping off th freeway and landing right in front o your car. Did,nt she (your friend) Lorraine.have to stay tell cops came?? I just cannot imagine anyone taking their own lifes. to be feel that depressed you can,t go on . It is so sad to m e.Well that was nice you took her to the movie. Train wreak I n ever hear of that. I don ,t go to the show no m ore just rent on TV. . I would be so scared to to live in tornado ally. I see those poor people loose everything. You said Joe and You walked to the store then got a car to come home. you mean where you live you get a car to ride home? We don,t have that in California. Well I better go Hav e to go eat . What a terrible circumstance to be witness to. I know the comfort you gave to Lorraine was just what she needed. Having friends is truly a blessing. Peace, Kathy
Lorraine is doing well. We chatted last evening - she has made plans for the weekend so I am glad. I am going to be in Edmonton to work on the cookbook with Tiina.
We didn\'t have a tornado. One touched down just outside of town but there was no real damage.
As for Car to Go, it is a company that has smart cars that people who are signed up can borrow to drive around the city. If you see a blue and white Smart Car, you have a card that you swipe over a sensor in the front window to open the door. You can drive it and drop it off wherever you happen to be going. I don\'t think they are supposed to go to the suburbs but it is great for people who live closer in. We found one near the grocery store - it saved us a 2 mile walk. I missed climbing my hill - it is my aerobic exercise at the end of my walk (we live at the top of the hill), but I did it today.
I was singing the praises of FMO to the chaplain at a seniors\' care center this evening at a pot luck farewell party.
One of the nurses was finally retiring - she is 79 years old! Needless to say, she was a dynamo! Her health is failing but she is still not sure she wants to be retired.
Oh my! I can\'t imagine witnessing what Lorraine did...so glad you were able to whisk her away to a movie to help move the image from the forefront of her thoughts. My prayers for her mind to not hold onto that image, and many prayers of course for the family of the woman who jumped. So, so very sad.

OK, so I had to google Car to Go, and discovered Car2Go available in the US from Portland to Miami!! What a cool idea! I will have to give this a try next time we fly into a city and need a rental car....this could be a better option!
Oh Boy! what a day for Lorraine. That image is difficult to make go away. I still see my son sitting on the couch not breathing.
I would not walk to the store, it is too far and I am not that crazy LOL. Kudos to you and Joe for the walk and the cool way you found your way home. I hope Joe feels ok and Lorraine is absorbing her bad day without side effects.

Oh Marlene this is horrible, poor Lorraine. Kudos to you for walking, I think I would pass out in this heat. Sending you hugs what a good friend you are. Keep up the good work walking!
Won\'t even go into what Lorraine witnessed and the long term effects. What I will say is what a good friend you are. Lorraine is blessed to have you in her life. And I think Lisa may just take after her Mom.
