Topsy-Turvy

What a strange new life...gratitude, grief, love, sadness, pride, guilt...every emotion and it's equal and opposite emotion overtakes me several times a day. It might sound really sad to those who are not on this journey, those not belonging to the "sisterhood", but let me assure you, those positive emotions are precious gifts...the negative emotions??? Well, they are precious gifts too, because they are the results of losing my child, after HAVING my child. She was awesome...there is no amount of pain that would even slightly lead me to regret having her. That would be impossible...so even during the depths of despair, I realize, for 22 1/2 years I had a really great kid...one of a kind. There never was, will never again be, another Cassi. For those who never knew her, or who knew her but not well, I feel sorry for. No one could make you laugh harder, cry harder or think deeper. It's such a shame the world is now deprived of her but I will never let anyone forget about her. I will never stop talking about her. I will never stop sharing stories about her. You might hear the same ones over and over again. It is healing for me and a blessing for you. Cassi Leann Churchwell was a very important person and a powerful force.
Love my job, love my teammates, my "crew"...the days I get overwhelmed and discouraged happen because I take on too much sometimes, want to help more people in a day than is possible. There is never enough time, money, resources...however, there is always enough love. I never run out, the well never runs dry. The more love I give the more love I have to give...it's a lesson older than time but it took a tragedy to make it real for me.
Even after everything...I believe life is good, people are good...even I am good. I get sad a lot, have some days I fall into the emotional well of despair but I linger as long as I feel is necessary, then climb back out...look around...see the light in everyone I meet. It makes me feel like I am going to be okay. I have to remember, though, that the dark, scary times will come. This is NOT a linear journey that we are on. I think about Rhonda Sellers Elkins...On 4-11-13 she lost one of her daughters to suicide. To help cope, she began writing a blog, just like I did. Hers became very successful and she even published a book, "My Bright and Shining Star". Things seemed to be going so well for Rhonda, she was even thinking about returning to work, she was a R.N. She posted a blog on August 26, 2014...seemingly in good spirits, very happy with the sales of her book. Three days later, August 29, 2014, she took her own life. It can sneak up on you, the horror...when your child had died, especially by their own hand. For me, I believe that being aware, being open with my feelings and emotions and refusing to put on a happy face when I am not feeling it is the best way to cope...that's for me, I would never presume to tell another mother how to grieve.
I didn't choose this, at least not consciously in this life...and as I said, there are times I am overcome with despair. When it happens, no matter where I am or who I am with, I let the despair wash over me and through me...I cry...I suffer. At some point, I come out of it, I feel better. This is how it happens and how I hope it continues will happen. I believe my sanity and even my life has been saved because of my ability to express my emotions, my fearlessness in showing my vulnerability...in embracing the pain and sitting with it as long as necessary. So far, once it has been given it's time it begins to ease off...I wear my heart on my sleeve...I am very sensitive and very emotional....and that's okay...just one aspect of who I am, the essence to what makes me, me. I love me.

What a beautiful journal entry! It brought back so much to me that I went through during my first 2 years. It was during that time that I learned that I would climb out of the despair over and over. Thank you for sharing your heart. Love and Peace

Cassi IS one of a kind as are you, Gina. The spin cycle of emotions that you feel you must and I\'m with you. I just have to share what I\'m feeling in the moment and am an open faced sandwich. Even if I tried to \"hide\" it I just cannot. It takes way too much energy not to live into how I am feeling.

I still am reeling too from Rhonda\'s story and would read her blog often. It is as it if it frozen in time and I cannot help but wonder about her husband, daughter and those who loved her fiercely. Just makes my heart so very, very sad.

I have no doubt that you are giving and receiving so much in your job. It\'s a fit and think back to a few months ago and could you ever have thought it possible? This is how I feel as I reflect upon my path with all its twists, turns, ups, downs and zoning out times too. A force so much greater than ourselves at work within our lives...

I have thought of you often and am always beyond grateful when you share how you are feeling and doing. Thank YOU!

Beautiful journal and beautiful heart!

Keep on keeping on and how have your shoes been working out? Just had to ask? :) And the tat sleeve?

Loving care,
XO Joanie

WOW! Change VERY few words and I could have written this myself. As a matter of fact, I\'m sure I did!!!

I cry and scream and curse a blue streak when needed. I release. I have to! Then, I scoop myself up, wash my face, and say, \"let\'s keep moving forward Teri\".

Cassi: IS a very important person and powerful force!
Kala: IS a very important person and powerful force!

And I have NO doubt they are best buds!

And their moms are pretty damn awesome too!!!

Love this journal, so contemplative, honest, and real! I did not know Cassi, but I am meeting her on Facebook and on DS/FMO. Thank you for sharing her and her story as you walk this journey with us!

Thank you everyone...thank you so much!!! Joanie...The tat sleeve is sort of like support hose on your arm, lol. Being in Florida, sticky heat wearing me down, it is not comfortable at all...So, I do what a lot of people do. I wear it during meetings and when I know my boss will be around, the rest of the time??? Forget about it!!! Ugly shoes are at the bottom of my closet now. So far I have gotten away with wearing shoes of my own choice and taste. My boss is a real sweetheart, she overlooks a lot because she knows I am ALL IN...I give my heart and soul to our clients, however, I don\'t want to take advantage of her, so as I said above, during meetings I will wear the insufferable sleeve out of respect for her. Truly, it is a small price to pay for finding the job that brings me so much peace.

Isn\'t it truly amazing that you found this job and it found you??!! These kinds of journals filled with life and its happenings are so very affirming in every way.

I have no doubt that you give 110% of yourself in all that you do and do you feel Cassi with you in particular moments of your day? I always asked Doug to walk beside me and guide me into the patient\'s rooms where I might be needed. He never guided me in the wrong direction and I left always feeling that I had received so much more than I ever could give.

Continued peace on your path dear Gina,
XO Joanie

Happy to read your thoughts and realize that the love energy never seems to diminish in your life. Your beautiful daughter, of course, one of a kind. Exactly so. Your work is lucky to have you, regardless of shoes.

For me it\'s four and a half years since I lost my son Jacob, who died in his sleep. The loss is more emmense than words can say. It\'s all the time and every day. Here\'s a soft hug for you, for your bravery and regenerating love. Abby

Gina, such a beautiful post. Your daughter is one of a kind and you will not let her life go unnoticed. And it is so powerful when we get to a point in this journey that we can be grateful for the negative emotions because even those are part of loving our child. I began to say that Ed is worthy of my tears fairly early in my journey and for me, it helped me to realize that, as you said, even the tears are part of the gift of our child.
You honor dear Cassi every day as you help folks who need to be touched by your loving spirit.
Much love to you and dearest Cassi, Linda
