Today

I realize we all gotta carry a sense of ownership of our lives as we go along

And that solicits a kind of respect within us and for want from other people

My godson today just was a starry eyed kid chatting away and I didn’t know how to relate. I gave up my power and sense of ownership to just share time with him.

I wondered if I was doing anything good for him. Through my depressed feelings I just thought that spending a good amount of time with him was good works. Caring about him a hearing his stories.

I felt overwhelmed and depressed after the meeting but it’s got me just learning to cope in a new way.

To shift gears and be mindful. At first I felt after the meeting that I hope I don’t do that to others by what I ask them to be for me. And after setting to work in the kitchen my rage and woe took over. But now I’m regrouping and thinking about it as just a lesson of life.

How to deal with other people and myself.

is that all there is?
is that all there is?
if that's all there is
then let's keep dancing
let's break out the booze
and have a ball
if that's all
there is

for peggy lee, those lyrics are downright grim, but i still find them apropos. the biggest mistake you can make it life is taking it too seriously.

i don't believe i get to live any portion of life on my own terms. even when i isolate, the puppets in my head have ideas of their own. all i get to do is participate. when i can muster up the humility of acceptance, participating is enough to keep me busy for a lifetime. maybe beyond, though i don't care to do the research just yet.

I think the best way to relate to a child or anybody as far as that goes, is to talk to them on their level. Take an interest in the things they are interested in. It's hard to do that when you are feeling depressed, for sure, so it takes practice. When you hang your head and you are looking down because you are depressed, think of a sunflower which is always facing the light. No matter where the sun is, the sunflower will grow towards that light. Even if you are depressed, invite the light into your heart and tell yourself you are facing the light, like a sunflower. It works! hugs

@ arfie When I was a kid growing up, my parents use to sing that song to me when they were drinking. Later on in life, I would also sing that song......It took me nearly a lifetime to figure out, that's not all there is. My parents were big fans of Peggy Lee.. Thankyou for sharing.
