To a very good friend

She was there for me during some of the worst times in my life. She was always the greatest friend outside my husband.  And during the worst moments of my life, she made me feel good.
It was 1994.  I had just had a miscarrage.  My mother was dying.  I was getting a divorce.  I wanted to become an athiest.  And I met my lovely dog, Taffy.  At the time I was afraid of dogs and had only gotten her because I was tired of walking alone and felt it was high time I got over my fear of our four legged friends.
Enter Taffy.  She was a sweet ball of fur that lifted my spirts immediately.  At first I was afraid.  I'd hear her chain jangling and break out in a cold sweat.  I was living with the enemy, I thought the first few days.  I was afraid of  her glassy eyes, the way she growled.  I took her to puppy class and everyone there could tell I was afraid of dogs.  It seemed an impossible task, but finally, one day, I looked at her and saw a friend.  It was like that for the next 15 years of our life.
I've mentioned on this post that I was given a premonition that I would lose my little family in a short time.  I had a husband, bird, and dog.  The bird died first, and natuarally, I figured the dog would be next.  She was 15 and in declining health.  But God and my good friend had a different plan.  My husband went first and my dog was again there for me, getting me through another rough time in my life.
Now, she was there to comfort me during arguments with my father.  She was there to comfort me when I missed my husband so much it hurt.
Taffy lived 3 months after my husband passed.  I remember her staying close to me, still walking, still enjoying life, but her eyes said that she was ready to travel that final road home to her father.  She stopped eating one day and I knew it was time.
I will never forget the moment the doctor gave her the medication to let her go.  I was crying, really suffering, and then I saw the look in her eyes at the moment she started to go.  There was one moment, less than a second, that her eyes lit up in the way she did when her father came home from work.  It was at that moment that I knew she'd finally found him, my dear husband.
That was over a month ago.  And I haven't shed many tears since then, for now, when I think of Taffy, I see her walking up rolling hills and my husband is there to guide her every step of the way.

So very sorry. Our dogs tolerated me but loved my wife dearly. I was very concerned for them when she died as they stopped eating and seemed to grieve along with all of us. Now their joy and passion for life helps me through these dark times. I understand so well what you have lost. You will get through this. Just take one day at a time.

Dogs are an important member of our family. We mourn for them as we would a family member. I had one dog named Ralphie. When my daughter said they had to put him down, I cried. From a pup when we took him home, Ralphie jumped right into my lap and into my heart. My condolences on the loss of your Taffy. All the best from Diane

Ok, I\'m crying now too! Our pets get to be so close and they have unconditional love. Have you ever heard of the poem \"The Rainbow Bridge\"? It is a beautiful poem about our pets meeting up with us and our loved ones. Every time I read it I cry because I think about all of my pets that have gone on to Rainbow Bridge...waiting for me. I know a few of them knew Larry and they have joined each other...enjoying one another again.

Taffy and your husband are together now, I am sure. Still crying, but that\'s okay.
