Thoughts On...
Pilosophy; the love of wisdom
Litereally the translation of the Greek word of it's origin. Home of the greats like Socrates, Plato, Aristotle. Who LITERALY without we'd still be living in the bronze age. Air conditioning would be opening a window, heating? throw a log on the fire.
Later, Philosophy went metaphysical (well always was) in the questions of Who,What,Why, (Where, When, With, Wonder...'W' seems to be Philosophies mistress lol) with the likes of Pascal, Kirkegaard, Kant, Nietzsche in trying to look deep into ones soul, some eyes looked back warmly...others in abysmal coldness.
Now were ALL philosphers on Twitter, FaceBook, and [insert social media platorm here] with our perfect views (opinions) of reality. Launching catapults of Parroted knowlege at each other in the safety of our own homes.
So...HAVE I BORED YOU YET?!?!?
That's the funny thing, something so valuable has become so un-cool (yep, showed my age hipsters) so mis-understood.
So... First question: How many Know what Wisdom is?
Is wisdom...
A: A tooth?
B: Intellect?
C: A Rapper?
D: Metaphysical understanding of a subject/object/ideal to a spiritual level of Knowlege in one's self leading to an examined life worth living?
E: 42 (if your a Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy fan)
F: None of the Above (If your a Nihilist)
G: All of the above
And the answer IS: G
But how many of you would have said B if i didn't give you multiple choice (the only reason i graduated...thanking the education system for dumbing down tests) Intellect? How many think wisdom is 'smarts', 'brains', 'reason', 'logic'. well, it IS. but also so very much more.
In finding a wonderful twitterpatted friend here (yeah you know who you are) i have rediscovered the 'love of wisdom'. Many of my conversations with this person reveal just as much to me as to they. Thats wisdom, always learning for yourself even when teaching others. In our conversation, I pointed out that 'Intelligence is the cold analytical fingers that creates smart phones and self driving cars for our ease and convienece. Wisdom is the understanding that such devices remove the ability to reason in having to have a device tell you when to get a haircut or lose all social, physical interaction. Or lose the sense of direction (yup, many can't even find North anymore). Intelligence is analytics in a cold secular world of easy convienece (they used to put Cocaine in Coke-a-Cola...that how it got it's name...now they've replaced it with raw sugar...just as addicting)
Wisdom is the internal spiritual understanding, learning from mistakes and the ability to understand and get an idea for yourself.
Some of the greatest people alive or have lived fully understand wisdom that the more you have, the less you know. Lao-Tzu is one the greatest chinese Philosophers ever and he led the simplest of lives, Diogenes lived in a barrel with the dogs, Socrates literaly survived on his freinds charity, Pascal was bed-ridden most his life yet is one of mathamatics greats. All, and many more accepted the humbleness of life that you'll never know everything but enjoy in learning what you can.
So why the soapbox pontification?
Wisdom to me is the key to my happiness. and learning from some of the greats then (and here) returns value to my life. In thye words of Shakesphere 'To thyne own self be true' makes sense to me. So i'm also going to follow in the footsteps of writting down my thoughts on subects i feel important in my life. Pascal, Kirkegaard...awww hell ALL of them kept journals in one form or another Even the Great Solomon from the Bible who i view as the first Philosopher. All in an understanding that putting words down to get a better understanding for oneself (and possibly giving others something to think about) was crucial.
So I'm Going to start keeping 'Thoughts' on subjects here that help identify me to myself.
To all that read this, I truly wish for serenity and peace in your lives. Freindships galore and many many warm loving hugs. Love

I made that one up a long time ago. In my garage.
Oi! Don’t call me out like that! Haha
I jest. I never figured that I could be a part of your self-discovery. Reading this makes me want to add a little something.
Something I always see in the world is the unwillingness to admit mistakes or wrongdoing, whether out of pride or embarrassment or guilt or whatever. As being a piece in the system that educations thousands of teens, I’ve seen time and time again that these people just don’t thrive. Wisdom is the key. Learning from your mistakes is the key. Admitting your mistakes in the first place is the key!
You've posed some interesting concepts, especially the one of all the philosophical greats (or not so greats depending on how one sees them) twittering. :-)) If you had asked this back in the day when I was a non-tradition college student taking philosophy classes from a narrow minded prof who threatened to mark all answers wrong that weren't direct and exact quotes from what he wrote on the board, my answer would have been very different. But today I would have answered all of the above, but ultimately added my own distractor that wisdom is trusting in my inner knowing. So yeah, I guess it would/could border or even dive deep into the metaphysical.
I would throw in an additional question. How do all the modern conveniences affect our wisdom and our ability to recognize wisdom when it whispers to us and before it slaps us upside the head? imho, the glaring effect of modern conveniences like twittering, facebooking and having our noses stuck to the screens of our phones 24/7 has disconnected us from two of the most critical necessities for humans: our connection to each other and nature. And that makes it next to impossible to be able to say, I think, therefore I am, among other philosophical rhetoric.
Another prof who created & taught two classes in the art of persuasion. Not how to persuade (well maybe indirectly) but rather how we are persuaded, marginalized and left voiceless because we don't know how to think critically and we don't question the status quo. I now drive ppl nuts doing both. I keep off line journals. One is random thoughts questioning the status quo about anything and everything. One is strictly political random thoughts.
I have been doing my best, altho often not all that successful, to just observe the political forces and anti-forces at work destroying the very delicate national infrastructure which is currently focused on the divisiveness in all areas of our decaying society. to add to what Ollie said about not admitting mistakes, imho it goes much deeper in that no one is held accountable or responsible because they are all busy pointing the finger of shame/blame at others. When they don't seem to understand is that when they point a finger of blame/shame at another, they need to really look literally at that action. When they do, they will see three fingers pointing back at themselves. Wisdom is a multi-facted concept that includes recognizing that what we point out as shameful or blameful in others is nothing more than a reflection of who we are at that moment and has absolutely nothing to do w/the target of our blame/shame. (In case ya can't tell, I'm a big fan of some of Carl Jung's stuff, lol) And I would add to Olliie's last sentence that when we admit mistakes and learn from them, they cease being mistakes/failures and become successes.
What I am learning is that the more I learn, the less I know. I am enamored with the simplicity of the complex paradoxes of Lao Tzu in the Tao. But ultimately, I'm down with always trust your inner knowing (not your brain or ego) above all others.
Well put MTC.
