this n' that.........remembering May baskets......xoxo
Morning!
Barometric Pressure has a lot of power. Ever notice that? How much it impacts CFS/ME and/or Fibromyalgia?
Barometric Pressure is behind the curtains, controlling the strings..........open the curtains and watch us dance. It's a modern uptake on Punch and Judy........Punch is not only knocking Judy from the outside, Punch is punching Judy on the inside. Judy feels every pain punch. How can poor little Judy get out of the way of the impact? (this also applies to our guy friends who are not Judy's but Judes cause they is dudes!)
Being punched makes us feel punchy in other ways. I had a hard time getting to sleep last night......so I watched a documentary about Jimmy Carter. I was drawing a time line as I watched........what I was doing during the same time back then. My goals were not as lofty as Mr. Carter's. Left home to live on the southern California coast........fell in love with the beauty of the mountains, the sea, the architecture, the opportunities, get an education, find work.......and even managed to date some cute boys! (I turned 18 February 1974) Seems like there was no gravity at all in my thinking back then...........no fear of falling, failure, mortality. The world felt so fresh, alive, exciting.
So in that I suppose there was a similar feeling of can do and hope for tomorrow. I remember the impact of the energy crisis, the problems getting and affording gas at the pump, it had doubled in price seemingly overnight. Mr. Carter faced some very big problems as all presidents do. I'm glad that I watched this program.........our country, the complexity of this earth.........the variety of views, the intensity of opinions.........the wonder of that day at Camp David when a final negotiation was signed impacting the troubled ever fighting middle east. And then later........much later after his presidency ended all the great work Mr.Carter continued to do........I was lucky enough to go to an event at the Jimmy Carter Center in the early 90's ........sorry.......... I'm rambling.
Do ya'll remember that song "I'm Proud to be an American" (where at least I know I'm free.) by Lee Greenwood? He gave a concert that night to a very intimate gathering of about 200 people. It's hard to explain......it was another wonderful experience! I was new in my career with my former longtime employer. My personal budget didn't include a lot of stellar entertainment, it did include a lot of hot dogs, chicken nuggets, applesauce & kraft mac n cheese. I was a single Mom feeding two children.........between the dinner - the entertainment - the speaker - the company it felt surreal to be there.
Reminiscing is a great way to drift away from pain. Since I fell asleep late, after sleeping so much yesterday I suppose overall being awake at noon today is a pretty good deal. I have a to do list saved on my desktop.......thinking that over. I have honey dos and fun to dos on there. At the moment I'm thinking - eat some yogurt........take your sweet time. With all the rain showers right now, there is no rush. If I could take my head off for awhile I think I'd do it........put it in a box and get it later.
It feels so weird, the stiffness, maybe I should grab a winter scarf and just wrap up my neck? That might feel good........nobody can see me and ya'll don't mind if I walk around in funny clothes. Maybe we should all get clown noses and clown around more in general...........sorry, that was random I know.
Just read an article about a woman who went through some major health issues, had to go through dialysis in 4 hour intervals.........she wanted to help others, help them have moments of laughter. She ended up taking clown classes.........and visiting children in area hospitals. Often that is exactly what she would do.......she would give a youngster a cute little red nose, make them a colorful animal balloon, tell some jokes........in her clown make-up, big floppy shoes and colorful costume and often she would whisper that sometimes even clowns had to spend time getting well, cause clowns get sick too.........the little ones would hug her so tightly. We all need time to be .......to just be.......to embrace the child inside, to have some moments of peace or joy..........I'm very rambly today...........got song lyric bits popping up in my head too
.............but mostly I'm just hankering for my yogurt..........thanks for stopping by.
hugs ........ lots of air hugs.........the cat kids are racing upstairs......sounds like tiny paws of thunder.......funny cat kids! xoxoxoxoxo........i accidentally typed sosososos and then cracked up.......is that my pain pulling a freudian slip??????? sending out an all call for help sign????
my niece made May baskets yesterday and along with her own little ones they went into the neighborhood and delivered them to other little children...........it's been so long that I had all but forgotten that tradition from childhood.........did ya'll make May baskets or dance around the Maypole like we used to do in good ol small town Iowa????? xoxoxo
Sorry for being late with your May Basket .......Happy May Day!

Oh Sparrow - going back in time can be so refreshing at times & also unpleasant at times. Most of yours today were refreshing.
Remember well the May Pole Days at my small rural school here in NC. One class each year was chosen to do wrap the pole - not sure that we danced around it but we did move in a fashion. It was an honor to be that class as we felt like we were a member of the Royal Guard or something. Since my school was a 1 to 12 school, the event was held on the high school football/baseball field so we had the stands for all to sit in & all elementary classes would do stuff.
Remember well those days of 1974 - just married - in a traveling sales job & trying to find gas. At least I had an uncle who ran a gas station so he would always work me in.
Great story about Lee Greenwood & that song. In 1987 while I was in the tour business, the company\'s annual reunion trip went to Mobile AL. It usually took place the weekend before Thanksgiving & would run 4 to 5 days. We would attempt to fill every motorcoach that we had - 25 or so & all of them would do the same trip - a mystery trip no less, so none of the passengers knew where we were going or what we would do on the trip.
One of the highlights each year was the Staff Entertainment Night. We had a lot of drivers & TD\'s (tour directors) who were retired from their work & instead of completing retiring were working in those positions. Not a bad gig for some. Many of them had other talents too & some had been involved in gospel music over the years as southern gospel is a staple in this area.
Then there were those like me, who needed a job so that is why I was there, but I did have one of the best speaking voices of all employees so I would do the \'mc\' work for those shows.
Anyway we had our show that year at the main auditorium in Mobile - same place that the Miss USA show had taken taken place a couple of months earlier. I was in awe as I stood on stage thinking to myself of how I was standing in the same spot as Gary Collins had stood - I was in love with that man\'s voice - he & Sam Elliott\'s.
Well, my good friend Harold decided he would lipsynch that Greenwood song. He did such a good job that 90% of the audience thought he was actually singing. We did a great show that night.
On the way back to the hotel became a riot. I was driving a motorcoach that year. Only did 3 of those reunion tours as I was more valuable back at the office controlling the troops movements - dispatching & all. Of the 3 times I went - I TD\'d one year - drove one year & provided support one year.
Well, back to the night at hand. I had vehicle trouble after the show which also included a visit from Santa & a skit by The California Raisins. The dressing rooms were not available to us at the facility so all of them are returning to our hotels in costume. On top of it all, Santa, a big guy like me, was the TD on an mc that we called the MASH wagon as he had so many with him that needed wheelchairs & all.
Now it is about midnight & we had to park the coaches about 5 blocks from the hotel & walk. So Santa & I are walking thru downtown Mobile with him pushing a wheelchair loaded down with all kind of stuff. We are meeting people coming out of our hotel who had been to some high dollar event & of course, the women were in evening gowns & furs & the men in tux\'s. Did we (Santa & I) got some looks - the same for the California Raisins.
I\'ve never been one to be too shy in my adulthood - as a kid I was - so I was telling them that Santa\'s sled was broken down & he was getting an early start on his Christmas deliveries. Now that is a memory lane trip, for sure.
I do agree with you about Barometric Bob (heck, if the Weather Channel can give names to snowstorms, I should be allowed to name weather conditions, right). Such as Windstorm Wendy, Hurricane Harold, Sandstorm Sandy, Rainy Ralph or Ruth, Foggy Fred & Icy Iris for a few. It has stayed about 60 all day long here so yes I am in misery today. Guess that\'s why I\'m so goofy - the two seem to bo hand in hand.
sox or oxs or whatever that ending is .......
I have never heard of the May basket tradition...very nice though..what a really nice action to do.
Sorry Serce to hear that your hurting more, and never thought about Barometric pressure before and the affect it can have on bodies. I won\'t mind at all if you wrap a warm scarf around your neck ,not one bit, will make me smile. I have a touch of your getting old arthritis and I get so stiff in the mornings well late morning for me,,,when I wake,I have to stretch and roll my muscles a bit to get this woman going! You were 18 in 1974 I was 20. I voted for and always admire Jimmy Carter. He always struck me as a politician who really cared about people. I remember the song as well, you mentioned. Grew up listening to Country Western.
You have my utmost respect working and raising children on your own.
sososo and xoxox to you much lovely lady. Hugs sosos xoxox
