thinking thinking thinking - no good

I'm having a rough day today - thinking too much about the casino & going to play.  I know all the "logic" of it of course and I hopefully won't act upon this. . I know exactly where these thoughts are coming from.... my husband is leaving town for a week and in the past that was my time to escape from reality and play the slots.... The funny thing is I just told my brother today that I was not gambling anymore and why hadn't he told me how dumb I was for going so much in the past and was I ever going to get any of the money back, etc., that would be a NO... we were joking about this... seriously, though I think he was proud of me for staying away.  And - here I am entertaining thoughts of straying off the path already.Hope I get through this alive. Take care everyone, Smokeygirl

Anytime I know my Husband is going out of town, That\'s the firsr thought that pops into my mind. After 7 months it still happens to me. Before he leaves I try to make plans with friends or my sons to keep me busy. If I can keep myself busy then I\'m Ok. I still have to fight against the urges, I don\'t know if they will ever go away completely. My husband was in the hospital for 10 days and believe me I thought about escaping to the casino, then I knew that would only create more problems. I made it by the skin of my teeth. I know for me I will have to stay on guard for a long time to come. At the same time my life has gotten so much better. You can do this, stay busy.

Hey girlfriend..... You are SO close to 30 days, I would hate to see you disappoint yourself just for a few hours of so called \"escape\". Just think --- Let\'s say you would take $100 to spend. In reality that would probably end up being $300 after going to the cash machine. Go get that new computer you were wanting, but with a twist. Take that $300 you would have spent at the casino and upgrade to an even bigger, better, faster machine. Or buy a new camera to go with it. Or a new driver for the course. Anything... but just dont give into something that deep down you know you will regret. Here for you if you need someone to chat with!!!!

Don\'t do it, don\'t go. Nothing good ever comes out of going to th casino. Ready my journal Day 1, Its been 9 days for me and I\'m still stressed over my financial lose. You like to read, go to the book store pick out a good book and buy a box of chocolates or maybe some wine, relax and read. Food always help me relax. I like movies, so I would go to blockbuster pick out a good movie with a bowl of ice cream. Treat your self to something safe. Casino is not safe, you know what it done to your finances in the past, stay away. Maybe treat yourself to the spa this weekend, a massage or something different.

i can\'t wait to hear that you did not go gambling why hubby was out of town. I know there are times when the urge is stronger-just don\'t act on it-let it pass. fill your time with something else- you will be so much happier!! i know you know all this-we are all behind you-show us your STRONG stuff :)

Think about 2 things. 1) How you will feel about yourself if you give in and go? and 2) How you will feel about yourself if you take control.. and dont go.but do something else you will enjoy and won\'t regret. If you choose the 2nd... You will feel like you have accomplished something positive.

I\'m with you smokey...hang in there, as hard as it seems. I entertain gambling thoughts quite often. I\'m not sure where I\'d be if not completely broke? I don\'t know where I\'d be in recovery. I understand how you feel; I very much hope that you make it through this rough patch.
Come here often. Journal. Maybe come to Safe Harbor for live chat?
Hoping and praying for ya...
love and hugs, Brigette

Please don\'t go. Occupy your mind with a job that will take you days. Clean out your closets and get rid of all those clothes you haven\'t worn in the last year, if you sew, make something you can get involved in, go to the homeless shelter and volunteer to serve meals, or ask your brother to go to the movies with you and talk to him about it. You want to escape from reality with the slots but when you come back home it\'s still there. Resolve whatever it is you want to escape from if you can. Use your mind for something positive so next time you have an urge you will say to yourself, I don\'t have to escape because everything in life is fine. hugs barb
