There's these little clues I'm getting...
...they're coming from my heart. I'll explain that.
It's starting to hit home that the professor for my legal ethics class is...not the best. The discussions are fine. His lectures aren't. Said lectures are his reading chapter summaries that he's handed out to the class. Ugh.
My parents asked me, legitimately, asked me why the course is taking up so much of my time last night. We agree that it's not just one thing. It's several. One is that I don't have a clue how to study from college textbooks. I know how to use chapter questions and chapter objectives as a base...and that's it. And I didn't even know that until deep into the spring semester gone by. That's why I was really, really ticked at the tutoring center when I found out they don't help with that kind of stuff. You have no idea how lucky I feel to get the grades I got over the spring.
The second, is I've just alluded to, is the professor's teaching style in and of itself. Because it's not adding enough to the text, and because the review questions are extensive in the book, I'm finding I essentially have to take notes on everything.
The third is the most interesting, though...I care a heck of a lot more than I did the first time through college. When I was studying to be an accountant, I was stuck with a similarly difficult professor for Intermediate Accounting II. She wasn't very good. And at the same time I was having severe doubts about whether I wanted to be accountant...but I was so floaty, too. I really didn't know what to do about it. Since the attitude was largely indifferent, the result was largely indifferent, too (for those who need to know: I eventually got a C, and I should have gotten much worse).
You could argue that this situation is even harder than that, because I have virtually no help available this time. In the intermediate accounting case, I had tutoring potentially available but since I was doubting the path I had chosen, it was very likely that no amount of help would have been enough. But this time, my heart cares much more. It wants it. It's saying it wants me to leave everything on the floor if that's what it will take. Since help isn't really there, I have to find ways to help myself.
Whether this is going to pay off is still up in the air, but considering I could have thrown the towel in at this point, the mere fact that I'm not behind is saying something. It's starting to look like maybe this path was meant to be.
