Therapy....finally
A number of things happened this weekend, first, it was my annual guys trip, the first time I've been away from my family since I was asked to leave back at the first of the year. I'm sure she struggled with it, but she still allowed me to enjoy it and was supportive of it. It could of been better timing but this is planned a year in advance, her position was terminated last week, so she found herself unemployed rather abruptly. She hasn't been sleeping well and has been doing her best to stay busy to keep her mind from wandering to darker places. Iv'e been supportive (since i found myself in this place exactly a year ago), she has had a few offers, nothing much locally but I've agreed to be open to relocating. I'm not thrilled about starting over somewhere new, but finding work for myself won't be a problem, our kids are young and have only been in school a couple of years, and the housing market seems to be rebounding, so we may be able to get out from under it, and if not I can always rent it out.
Now, the other exciting thing was that I finally got to meet with a therapist. It was nice to talk to someone and get an third party's opinion on all of this. We discussed the affair i had, we discussed the lying, and how my wife feels. When we got to how I feel, he noticed it became hard to articulate what i was feeling. He has decided to start me on an emotional intelligence program to help me better feel both empathy and sympathy especially towards other adults. He has also asked me to bring my wife with me for the treatment, so that she can see what he is trying to accomplish and what I will be trying to accomplish, so she can help and he also thinks it may help her better overcome residual feelings of my affair. She has agreed so the next session will be both of us attending, I'm pretty excited about this.
