the world is vast
I woke up bright and early this morning...and delivered goods for my parents'.
Came home at 630am and set down to feed and play with Blue.
Took a shower and dressed and then went out for coffee.
Had some cheerios too.
Washed up and here I am. I find myself thinking about the monastic life..
a pure simple life of chores and routine and peace....
but also not settled yet on that pursuit I am also thinking of
maybe the life of a person who makes a living at a vocation (that I am thinking about)
and also does religious stuff on the weekends :) or ocassionally goes to the monastery:).
Fish recommended to me that it's important to go the 'middle way' with things..
and so I am trying that on for size -
often I find myself contemplating the idea of taking care of myself
- and the idea comes to me in a kind of monolithic way...
that we have to do it in a 'perfect way' - that there's no room for error -
to enter a monastery where I would be completely void
of fiscal responsibilities - and have a life of routine and peace
- or choosing a job - going for a job that I am thinking about - where I would take
care of myself - but 'what if I failed'? - who would I turn too? 'what would I do?'
I think we all think about things like that - I can't do nothing in the face of these variables -
and yes wouldn't it be great if I could just scribble here in the corner, in my journal
and make a living like that - perhaps living that dream for a while the answer
will come organically. :)
I see to go round in circles with these ideas - - but the morning is here -
I appreciate it a great deal - the world is vast and spins round and round.
I can't do nothing in the face of these variables -

And? ? ? Have you discovered what it actually takes to join a monastery? I've been told that, in all the monastic religions, it is more complicated than giving up on the world, but I have never been curious enough to do the research. It's starting to feel like a tease when you pique my curiosity without providing an answer.
Thanks for the push Arfie. I will tell you via PM later what I find out.
I took a couple peeks at monastery options. It is something that can be a blessing. There are places that allow you to live in one for a year, and it's interesting to note that the experience is far different from people's expectations.
Ok, thanks Mid!
My Uncle Louis was a Jesuit Monk at this monastery in MA....hoping this link might give you some direction. He lived his life in silence, meditation, study and his work was making Trappiest Jam.

Retreats, sadly closed now due to virus, but info for future possibility? https://www.spencerabbey.org/retreats/
thanks Mary Louise!
Markus, I’m sorry you’re feeling negativity today and feeling the need to solve all the vast problems of life quickly and swiftly. I get it - the world is full of pressure. Sometimes unnecessarily so.
I believe there is always possibility though……
Stay strong.
thanks Nikki!
