The weekend challenges . .

This past weekend was a challenge but I pulled through it!!  Since I have a lot of the holiday spirit right now, it seems to promote going out and having a good time, etc. which used to equate to going to the casinos.  Boy - on Saturday I wanted to go in the WORST WAY.   I weighed my options in my head and went over and over and over things; how this time I know it would be different; I'll only stay for just a little while; I won't bring very much cash in; I just felt I had to do it, just for a little while; win something big and cash out and leave, feeling great!  It's not that big of a deal - - - I haven't been there in a while; everyone goes, why can't I just go too - I will be able to control myself, etc. Anyway, I was running around doing some errands in town and the temptation was clearly there, but I did resist.  Then in the evening we went to a wonderful Christmas fundraiser for kids and there were so many fun songs and conversations that I really didn't think of it.  Today was golf and another dinner party - no time to divert. Interesting how those thoughts will still pop up and reverberate in my head.. I really thought I would submit to them this time; they were STRONG, but I was too. Hope all is well with everyone, HUGSSmokeygirl

I\'m so proud of you for resisting. Those thoughts ARE strong, I know. It happens to me too. It seems that we want to be like other people more than anything when it comes to gambling, but in reality we can\'t and it can never be. I think that was the hardest part for me to accept. I\'m glad you were able to divert your interest to happier and more enjoyable things.

You stayed strong in your recovery and made sure that you were thinking and not just reacting, this is so so good. I remember those urges coming fast and furious and they still do but they don\'t shout as loud these days. I guess I have quietened them a little with some effort into my own recovery. You did so well - I am so proud of YOU- Love Suzi

How this addiction plays mind games with us! I too have these same thoughts, these same strong urges. Good for you for resisting them! The more we resist, the stronger we get.

YAAAAAAAYYYYY for my friend......
I had some strong urges a few days ago....and like you, I was able to resist them. I\'m just grateful the strong urges aren\'t there all the time.

One thing I do know....if I went, I wouldn\'t leave in a little while, I would go back again and again, and before I knew it....my life would be worse than it was before.

WHEW!!!

I\'m proud of you for staying strong.....you did GREAT!!

Hugs, dianne
