The Weekend
Friday and Saturday are the hardest days for me. So many people out on the town with someone, and me sitting here alone. So tonight, I decided to do some websurfing and ended up reading about the 1920s flapper. They were so independent, a complete departure from the Victorian values of their parents. Completely scandalous. When I think of them, I wonder if they rejected the values because they saw how their mothers ended up. Many of them had to have been widows and most likely depended on a male relative to get them through. Some probably ended up in loveless marriages, all so they could survive.
I guess I'm saying that we twenty-first century women are so lucky to have choices. Many in our group have expressed the desire to remain single. Some are not sure. In either case, I think for most of us, we're free to choose.
Back to Betty Boop. I'm actually listening to some of the songs from the 1920s and Helen Kane the singer who Betty Boop is based on.
Anyhow, it took my mind off of the weekend.

Didn\'t realize Betty Boop was based on a real person. Good for you girl in successfully distracting yourself. I usually just watch HGTV and play with redecorating ideas. We are blessed to be in this time as a woman. But have to say I miss society being more traditional values and respectful towards one another. Guess there is always a trade off. Hugs, D
I am just thinking about your statement about \"loveless marriages\". While I am sure that those have existed and still do, I am thinking of our culture and how we think that hearts fllowers and butterfly feelings are necessary to have a have a happy life with a member of the opposite sex. I, for one, almost wish that we had arranged marriages. I mean in all seriousness, I can grow to love a person if they are kind and we share similar values and I respect them. I mean, I have not shown the greatest intelligence in some of the people I have \"taken up with\" especially in this last year. I almost wish my father would carefully select someone for me and arrange a marriage so I could start working on the growing to love him part. Well, except for the fact that my father and I strongly disagree on politics and he would probably select someone who leans the same way he does. LOL
You make such a great point! We are free to choose. I always thank god I was born in this era because with my rebellious streak, I\'d have been burned at the stake for sure! Or stoned depending on how far back in era\'s we\'re talking:)
There is so much waiting for us as woman these days. We can do most anything we want. This world is vast and beautiful with opportunities all over the place. Thank you for reminding me of this. It\'s hard to think this way when we are weighed down in grief but this thought gives me quite a bit of renewed energy and enthusiasm about life!
wishin you peace and joy:)

It was an interesting way to spend your time that is for sure.
We are all different in how we chose to remain after the loss of our spouse. Some will remain single, some chose to remain single and others eventually find another partner There is no right or wrong in this matter but what is good for the individual. All the best from Diane B.
