The things disabled people HAVE to deal with
1. Planning out medication
This is verry stressful for most disabled people. Planning out even just ONE week of medications could take up hours to plan and if its not done correclty their symptoms WILL worsen.
2. Being disrespected by cab drivers
I understand complexes could be complicated and confusing. But if they call and I give them EXACY directions multiple times. Their not the ones that should be upset. Yelling and leaving without me. Leaving me home to miss my doctors appointment completely.
3. Not Being listen to or being taken seriously by Doctors, friends and family
Its hard enough to have to suffer with our symptoms, but then have NO one look at the issue. They just see it as just another complaint.
4. Spending HOURS on hold with insurance companies and Doctors
In order to keep your insurance and Doctors the average disabled person will spend weeks, months and even YEARS trying to get help for their symptoms. This can get quite stressful! especially if your waiting to be determind for your healthcare or not.
5. Emotionally draining the energy in order to plan and get to the doctors offices
Being on hold for hours at a time. Playing phone tage with doctor for weeks and months can make you lose yourself and let your emotion rage though your voice and actions. Not being able to communicate well with your Doctors brings emotional pain all of its own.
6. Having people TRY and give you advice on an illness they have NO education about
Pretending to be a doctor! Its a BIG joke! Theirs NO answer or CURE for my disablity. NO amount of diet, exercise, water or sleep can fix my issues!
7. Maxing out your alarms to remmind yourself to take your meds
Taking Medication comes with a harsh responsiblity of keep track of the times you need to take them.It could get overwhelming fast! I HAVE some sort off alarm in order to remind myself to take them at the same time daily. In such a fast pace world it becomes easy to forget the time and get caught up in life's moments.
8. Getting treated differently because you have a disablity
Sometimes its better if they dont know your disabled. For instance at a job interview. It WILL make you come off as weak and unable to handle or do the job completely. Or if you MIGHT need a litttle extra help, they think to themselves why hire them? We would need to hire someone else to help them. When they could just get someone who CAN fully do the job without another persons help.
9. Gettting looked down on by socity because you either cant work or cant work enough to be consider a middle class citizen.
Today's society looks down on the disabled as poor, lazy people who just simply don't want to work. Most people say ,"they are just using the government for free money and benefits.' That is just NOT the case! People who have disablities WISH they could work and have normal full-filling career.
10. Primary Doctors visit compared to specialized Doctors visits
Yes, everyone should go to the doctors and get regular check ups. But in the case of the disabled we Have to see specialist. The normal perrson thinks going to the doctors is NO big deal. Just call, make a appointment and go in. Well, with the disabled it could take 6 months to 3 YEARS to see these specialist. Waiting for the help could be quit unbearable. Having to continue to live daily though your symptoms.
11. Change in Lifestyle
Once someone has talked to their Doctor and has been considerd disabled by their symtoms. They will normally say diet and exercise now HAS to become apart of your everryday life. This is a DRAMATIC change in their life! It causes all sorts of emotional issues. Even if it's for the beter.
12. Constant fatigue and symptoms from the disablility making it just that much HARDER to do all of the above.
These are just a few things that disabled people HAVE to take responsablity for on a daily basis. Its far from easy and most disabled people would rather just punch a clock for 8 hours. I hope this helps people understand just a little bit of what me and countless others living with disablities have to deal with.
