the school train
precisely 5 class days left until the end of the third academic year since our little ship of fools came together on the rocky shores of domestic strife. our respective crash landings on those rocky shores happened on the first day of the academic year. we remain some months shy of our third anniversary as a foster family.
i am going to miss these school mornings. i am risking the sin of pride over how joyfully functional our morning routine has become. methinks the two older children and the other two adults (hubby and fa) who structure that minor miracle are going to miss the routine, as well. baby sis isnae so structured an element in that routine. sometimes she joins in. more often she soaks in bed, listening to the preparations through the dreamy shrouds of waking up. at 3 years old, her routines are suggestions, at best. every day is a brand new adventure.
big bro and big sis arenae talking much about summer vacation. they listen attentively --anxiously?-- as hubs, fa and i discuss the transition, but silently avert their eyes and fidgit nervously when invited to join the discussion. that would be the very action i am translating as, "i am going to miss the school train routine."

I hope they will transition to love the magic of summer vacation…peace Arfie
I hope the transition will go smooth as possible (maybe even some pleasant surprises in between :)
Gentle hug <3
thank you, guys. prayers (by whatever name) needed and appreciated.
even for a 3rd grader, three years isnae a long time in establishing a family routine, especially when 2 of those 3 years were coronafied, but they seem to have a grasp that it is only a vacation and nay another global shutdown. they LIKE school. we are planning a road trip similar to the one last summer in hopes of giving them a greater sense of continuity.
That’s really great Arfie!!
Have they seen the ocean yet?
alas, they'll have to see the ocean without me. i am allergic to saltwater. it is not a lethal allergy, but the itch is a bitch.
i feel a bit deprived, but thank god for national geographic and all the many inland wonders still comfortably available to me.
so far, they have seen bits of texas, oklahoma, arkansas, tennessee and kentucky. this is only the second year they have been able allowed out of state because of the CPS involvement.
and the last day of the school year is upon us.
i think we are all agreed that we are going to miss those daily school rituals. talk about summer vacation is still not flowing smoothly, but it feels more like we are savoring the current flows more than dreading the new. tomorrow will be a strange new day, but methinks we are ready for the change. at least, that's my prayer and i'm sticking to it.
