The problem
with the world today - IMHO - the kids get a snow day again today and possibly tomorrow if it keeps snowing at this rate and stays at this temp, but already they plan on having the kids go to school on a holiday to make up for the last snow day. I see visions of them going to school half the summer again just like they did last year!! I'm sitting here weighing whether the 12 mile drive to campus is worth digging out my car and trying to make it because the university is having classes at this point and it is really causing me undue stress having to decide if my safety is more important than a class that I know for a fact drops you a letter grade if you miss more than 3 days in a semester!
And on top of that, it is really making me feel old that I'm sitting here thinking about "the good ol' days" when they planned several snow days into the schedule, you actually got 3 months of summer no matter what, and no one felt so much pressure to risk their safety to make it anywhere in inclement weather....you know those days when schools still had field trips and took half a day off for the county fair??? When there still was such a thing as a childhood and the world didn't end because you missed a few days!

ggrrrrr indeed! I can\'t relate to when snow days were planned into the schedule as I am in the UK but I can certainly relate to the inclement weather messing your days up completely. 2 hours on a freezing bus (they have no heating on the city buses here - can you believe it!!) for a 40 min ride. Or no buses. And I don\'t get paid if I don\'t go in, simple as.
ggrrrrrrrr
Safety first, always!!!! xxxxxxx
I just went through that last week (as you know) and it is really frustrating to try to decide between being safe and showing up to work or school. Really these decisions should not be ours to make.
