The Path Through Abuse to Healthy Living

We are all here on this board together, because something is calling us from the pain we know to a life filled with fulfillment, peace and ease. It is a step of faith that we all take...
We do not know what is on other side of the abusive life we have known. We only know that we must save ourselves, and put ourselves first, eradicating as much abusive behavior from our lives as possible. This often means losing many of the people closest to us.
Making that decision,  that choice to live an abuse-free life often alerts us to make other changes. It encourages us to be kinder and more gentler to ourselves. In the absence of daily negativity our own harsh inner voice seems louder and crueler than before, so we turn down the volume and look for ways to amplify the joy in our lives.
At first it seems strange, this odd silence. Our phone never rings, people stop calling us, texting us, and if they do it is never about something tragic. Our lives feel flat, as if they are missing something. We start looking around for things to do, anything to escape our emotions, even contacting HIM. It doesn't matter if we do or not, because the result is always the same, we come home to ourselves.
We feel everything, the good, the bad, the in between... And somewhere in the midst of all of the feelings, we begin to dream again.
We start to think about what we want for ourselves. We begin to create, to rebuild. We have done this before, some of us many times before (especially if our family of origin was abusive), but we have always done it for other people. This time it is just for us.  This time we live our dreams, one step at a time.
