The Next Chapter...
The last couple of days have been rough... like really rough! My boyfriend, of a year, broke up with me last Friday night. It was devestating and there was a lot of crying from both of us... It was really hard to let him go, but deep down I knew this was the right thing to do...
It's been a lot of back and forth since Friday. I find myself thinking about him, mising him and our time together and it makes me sad. I try to come up with things I can say or do to help change his mind and the situation. But reality strikes, telling me "No, that isn't healthy and that isn't the right thing to do. You HAVE to let go..." When I feel the tears bulding up, I fight back and remind myself of all the reasons why going our separate ways is better for me. It seems to do the trick...until the cycle starts again.
Because of trust and abandonment issues, I have ALWAYS put everyone else before me. My parents, my sister, my extended family, my friends, my boyfriends, my job, EVERYTHING! I thought, "Oh, if I am always accesible to them and doing anything and everything they want or need, there is no way they will ever leave me!" Sadly, I learned the hard way that it is most definitly not the case... Whenever someone left my life, I would always put the blame on myself. "I didn't do enough". "I'm not good enough". "I should have done X,Y,Z..." No matter what the situation was, I always connected the dots back to me. With each experience, there has been someone telling me, "You need to love yourself before anyone else can love you" and "You need to learn how to put yourself first; it's okay to be a little selfish." At first, I didn't understand what that meant or maybe I was too stubborn to admit that was the case, but then I understood. For a while I knew that was the issue, but I was reluctant to set any action plans that will allow me to do just that. I said I would try, but I never did. It was becoming debilitating, not putting myself first, and what was worse was I knew exactly why!
So in light of things, I encourage myself to view this break up as the beginning of my next chapter: Chapter 26: Self- Discovery! By doing so I find myself excited about learning the answers to questions I have long since avoided like "What makes me happy?" and "What do I want?"
There were so many things I would think about, but it would always be in terms of the relationship. I didn't realize until recently, but that was holding me back! I didn't approach my boss about taking on more responsibility because I thought after summer we will both move out of the city or state. I didn't get my Barre instructor certificate because I didn't want to give up a weekend with him. I am now realizing that these actions sacrificed my wants and needs. As part of my road to self- discovery, I am going to put these on the top of my list and the list doesn't stop there! I want to paint again...start yoga...attend acting classes...take dancing lessons...spend more time outdoors hiking and kayaking with my dog!
I also really want to work on not being so co-dependent. I find myself doing things only if other people are available to do it with me. If they aren't, I (again) sacrifice my own wants and needs. So! In order to jumpstart my independence, I booked a solo trip to Seattle and Portland!
This is all so scary but exciting, nerve wrecking but thrilling! I could not have stayed strong and found clarity without the support and guidence of my friends @rcurtis1010, @Timster, @StarBrightGal, @Leeann33 and @Carolin57! <3 Thank you for being my companions on this journey of becoming healthier and happier! I know there are trying times ahead, but I also know that with y'all by my side, everything is going to be alright :D

I keep hearing "You can't be any good to others until you take care of yourself." Whether it's directed at me or not, I find that it holds true.
I lost so many people lately and I miss them a lot, but I suppose it's a sign that I need to get through the hard stuff on my own right now, for whatever reason. Having no support system really sucks, but I guess I'm stronger than I give myself credit for.
I don't really need anyone.
I think taking a little trip by yourself is a great way to get in touch with your feelings, wants, needs, desire, freedom, creativity, all that good stuff. And I'm jealous you get to go to Seattle and Portland! I would love to do that. I hope you have an awesome time.
You honestly sound like you're going to be okay. You're looking forward and making plans to open up your world and that is amazing.
I'm sorry for the heartbreak. It sucks so much, but you're doing so well right now, despite it all.
My inbox is always open to you if you ever need anything!
Love you so much and I really needed to read this today. You give me so much inspiration <3
I'm so sorry that you are experiencing a painful break up. Despite knowing it is for the best as you said, it still hurts. May each day be a little more gentle.
I too, lived many years in the fear of losing people...always afraid of abandonment and jumping through hoops to keep them with me yet they all left. And I was devastated over and over. From my parents on...
It took me a long time to learn that I had value just because I am made in God's image and that I am good enough. It is so freeing!
I wish you all the best in this new chapter of your life. I'm believing your journey to self love and self discovery will be exciting, fruitful and a good journey too.
Love yourself, you are worthy! ♡
Thank you for sharing. It isn't about being selfish, as must as it is about knowing that you do matter. The difference is that in becoming selfish, you become like those that hurt you. In not listening to Depression's lies of self-loatheing, you realize how important you are. That importance leads to helping yourself and others in a way that you don't feel used. It is making wants a want, and not wants a need. That comes easier, when you know that you matter. You do matter very much. It is great news, that you are understanding that truth. Thank you for that wonderful news. :) God Bless.
“I also really want to work on not being so co-dependent. I find myself doing things only if other people are available to do it with me. If they aren't, I (again) sacrifice my own wants and needs“- I completely understand this. I hate even going for walks unless someone comes with me.
I’m always here for you!
Star.
Sorry about the breakup, but, you're right to put yourself first.
Always star in your own play.
You can do this!
I am so very proud of you and I realize break ups are hard and sad but its important also to remember that you're important too and time always helps us to get there, so excited you planned a trip and I know all will work out.. you are very special.
Do something extra for yourself each day and enjoy your walks with your fury pal.. exercise is such a good way to feel better.
Lots of hugs and blessings coming your way.. hang in there my friend.
This is a very positive journal. It's great that you are focusing on doing things for yourself, there's nothing selfish about being the best you can be. The trip to Seattle and Portland sounds very exciting I look forwards to hearing all about it, and reading here about your experiences in the new chapter.
Start by looking after your bruised and broken heart, practice some tender loving care, put on some favourite music, take a bubble bath, read something uplifting, walk with your dog and pick up a pencil and sketch something. Plan your days to incorporated something just for yourself. Be gentle on yourself when the hurt re surfaces, crying they say can sometimes be healthy even when one feels very sad.
I wish I could read the first 25 chapter of you life story. Even if they were difficult you had to go through them to be the person you are today and for you to meet all these great people here on DS.
Good luck in the new chapter in your life. Glad you're doing well
