The Mom I Needed
The mom I needed would have told me that she loved me, and given me hugs daily to remind me of it.
The mom I needed would have supported my interests, attended my sporting events, and let me talk about my dreams and hopes.
The mom I needed would have taught me what I needed to know to survive in this world, she would have taught me about sex, how to be a good friend, small things like table manners, shown me how to cook a dish or two, taught me to drive, helped me find a good college, and she would have loved spending that time with me.
The mom I needed would have been very encouraging, giving me compliments when I did well, and a hug even when I didn't.
The mom I needed would have made sure we always had food in the house, and clothes that fit well, and new shoes when I grew out of my old ones (now I'm just being greedy).
The mom I needed would have talked to me and listened to me.
The mom I needed would have taught me how to be healthy, strong, and compassionate; she would have modeled for me how to be a good mother so that when I grew up, I would be a good mother to my kids as well.
