the lens we choose to look through
my brother in law gave me the best bit of advice once.
he saw me parsing through thoughts, ideas and obversations.
he said to me "mark if you can see both the good quality about yourself and
see the negative quality (both sides in essence) he said then choose the positive
one - the good - to focus on." This is so true!! In fact I think it is an idea that
can have application to our lives and the things we do and have done to survive
and live in our lives. I can see that I can see both aspects to my life here at the monastery.
I could judge myself and the nuns negatively or I can very much look kindly on how we are living.
It's an idea that really lifts the weight of feeling lost in it all.
My grandmother used to say to her daughter (who shared it with me) that 'life is an attitude' -
in some ways it's a similar philosophy and tool.

It’s wild but I’m realizing that I have this delusion of wisdoms piling up on wisdoms that I report on here and with the folks in my life, but quite honestly not everyone thinks this way. It’s something to consider by me, it’s humbling and also something that rattles me to be aware about dumping it on others.. Instead I’ll manage those drives and internal pressures in a more grounded in the moment way.
I think deciding to choose the positive is a wonderful way to look at it
It can be hard to see that as a concious choice when we're feeling low but it's something that we can really work on
Words of wisdom for sure sweetie..xo
Thanks Janet!
