The Leftovers

Does anyone watch the show "The Leftovers"?? If you are not watching it, don't try to pick up now, you will be lost. Wait until you can watch from the beginning when it comes out on Netflix. I haven't missed an episode and I am still confused...it is very weird, and mysterious, a lot of things have yet to be explained so I am going to tell you about what I understand about it. The premise is that 5 years previously, 5% of the world's population just disappeared. No one has a clue where they went or why, they are just gone. The people left behind generally fall into 3 groups. There is a weird cult called The Guilty Remnants that won't let anyone forget anything. There are those who are rather shallow and fake smiles and try to move on and make the best of it at best, forget about it at worst. Then there are those in the middle...those who just keep putting one foot ahead of the other, because they don't know what else to do. But they don't fake happiness, really don't even seek it. They just shuffle along, sadly...just carrying on, broken hearted...but they seem to accept it, just accept that this is the way life is now, and it sucks.
To be honest it's a really sad show, but I was drawn to it and I think I have figured out why. I think most of us, me for sure, are like those people who just go through the motions...sadly, but what choice do we have??? I think I can relate to the characters...sad.

It sounds like a weird show.. After your description, I am not sure I want to watch it!
As I read your description of the group putting one foot in front of the other, I immediately thought \"That\'s me\".
I hope you are having a relaxing weekend!

I couldn\'t agree more. It\'s about loss, just what we are experiencing. I find it fascinating and very well done. Love, Abby

Yes one foot in front of the other as we have no other choice, yet I think watching John Wayne in Big Jake with Maureen O\'Hara today was better. Love those oldies. Keep moving girl!!! Hugs, Kathy

Never heard of it, but it does sound interesting and mysterious. Wonder if you will ever find out, where those people disappeared to?? Shuffeling alone, not knowing where to go or what to do...that is me !

It is very mysterious...and I just touched the surface! Lol Marlene, if you get a chance, watch it. Maybe it\'s just me, the sort of thing that appeals to me might be too dark for others already in pain. I just see it as real...quiet, resolved sadness...it\'s on HBO, an original series.

When I read your descriptions, I immediately thought of several that fit into each...including me. I will mark it for Netflix. It does sound interesting to me...gentle care, Gina

Sounds like something I will be checking out. I know there are days that I shuffle along and I know too that there are days where my step is lighter and I don\'t leave as many skid marks behind me... :)

Hoping you are filling yourself up dear Gina,

I find it compelling, however it is hard to watch at times...you know we are all different, we grieve differently, have different personalities...I have always been drawn to darkness...not a good thing and something I fear I passed on to my precious baby...There are days when my \"aura\" is yellow I am sure...but ordinarily I am probably all blues to blacks and grays...I wish I was a naturally happy person, but I never have been, not even before. So this show, I can relate to it, the quiet desperation, the resigned sadness. This is probably a show some moms should avoid like the plague but for me, it just feels right, it feels real.

Gina,
I\'m like you and drawn to these types of shows and movies. I watched all of the episodes of The Leftovers and was sorry when the finale came. I\'ll pick it up again with the new season. I find the show to be compelling also. But what about Wayne who was taking everyone\'s pain away for a fee? He was an odd character; couldn\'t quite interpret him.
I hope your week is a good one!
Big Hugs,
Diane

Diane...somehow I missed the last episode, my dvr missed it. Still have to watch it. There are so many unanswered questions, but some may have been answered, like I said, I haven\'t seen the finale. What\'s up with the dude shooting the dogs??? What is the real agenda of the Guilty Remnants and why do they smoke so much??? Most of all...what happened to the people who disappeared???.
