The Holidays
First off HAPPY 'WHATEVER IT IS YOU CELEBRATE'! I hope it all goes well for all of my friends, that your family is near, that you feel loved as much as possible and that you enjoy every last second of it!
Now...lol. I hate Christmas. Don't get me wrong, it's fun...but I hate it. I love the time leading up to Christmas, I love buying things for people, knowing that their faces will light up when they see it. I love scrounging for the perfect gift at the cheapest price. I love staying up late and wrapping to see Marlow's eyes grow big when she sees that gifts have appeared under our tree magically. I love all the lights that are draped across houses and trees. I love the soft music you hear playing everywhere.
But then comes the day. And there are the spoiled, callous people who don't even pretend to be happy with what they got. There is always the one person who wants the whole day to be about them. There is the stress of the big dinner, of keeping little fingers out of hot pots and pans. There is the tense feeling in the air between relatives who are there, not because they want to be, but because they feel that they have to be. There is the drunk, bound to be some distant uncle or in law. There are people who no matter what you do they will throw it back.
Plus, after the day there are bills to pay and not enough money. This year BOTH Joey and I get laid off for two weeks. So we are going to have to pay a full month of bills off of half a month of work from his pay only. He gets paid every two weeks...I get paid once a month. And my pay had to go to the mortgage last month. PLUS he borrowed $200 from his sister months ago. He told me he would pay it off in chunks. Well...he hasn't given her a dime. And the $300 his parents give each kid for the holidays, that I was counting on to pay bills, has to go to his sister. Because she is also picking up Marlow's santa gift for us in the city she lives in. I had counted for that, not the $200 he said he would take care of. I'm a wee bit furious at that.
On a positive, unrelated note, Joey has actually been trying at home. He has emptied the dishwasher twice in the past three weeks. Not alot, but more then he has in the two years prior. He switches my laundry over for me. He still wont fold or put away, but at least he moves it and brings it up to me. He has taken out the garbage WITHOUT being asked for the first time....prett much EVER. And he is finding out that doing these things means he gets lucky more often lol. Hopefully it keeps up and gets better and better!
