The hardest thing I had to get use to living in Ireland

I think that would be the accent of people and knowing what they are trying to tell me. The Irish add a lot to their statements and you have to pick out the important words to know what they are asking you. Different things are called different things over here. Lets see if I can remember any examples....A person here would tell you can I have a glass of water in your own time, but they are standing there waiting for it, so they are really saying drop everything you are doing and get me a glass of water. A sweater is called a jumper, suspenders are called braces, garda is police, vests are undershirts, zimmer frame is a walker, trunk of a car is a boot, the hood of a car is the bonnet, the windshield is called the wind screen. Metric system is used here(which I am bad at math anyway) Oh and the stove I use is in celsus, trying to cook anything for a year was a nightmare.....They call all people from America Yanks being from the south I thought they were taking the piss out of me. Fuck is used alot in talking so it has become a everyday word here not when your mad. I haven't been one to cuss very much but since I have been here I have noticed I have pick up on that one real quick.LOL Someone is saying I am going to pick up messages, which means they are going to the grocery store to pick up some items. They call a pen a biro and vacuming ,hooving. That's all I can think of at this time. You really have to come over here in order to really know what I am talkng about. Yes there is also driving on the left side of the road and the roundabout on the roads which is a circular intersection. Rules of the road are different, and the roads are terrible.....very narrow so you really have to be on your toes all the time while your driving. Love to all of you

I\'m married to a Brit so those terms are quite okay with me. How about a hose is a hose pipe, drain is a plug hole, tea is supper and there\'s more just can\'t think at the moment. Driving is weird I agree but at least the cars are as small as the roads. Ha Ha. How goes work. Love and hugs Cathy

I would surely be lost and confused all the time. I am a country girl form Louisian. I live in Florida now, but still on a DIRT ROAD. Yes some folks call us rednecks, but here that is NOT usually a derugatory term. We have diffrent terms for tihngs in diffrent parts of our country. The north and south especially. Love,Peg
