The fun of summer
Just want to let y'all know that if you are thinking of vacationing in Maine, once this pandemic is over, you might want to think again. Maine has the highest rate for lyme disease in the country. I have already picked 3 off me in the past week, alone. I was diagnosed with lyme a few years ago and was given antibiotics. It took me two years to completely get rid of it. That's nasty stuff. They tell me I can't get immune to it because there are 15 different variations of it. So far this year, I have been lucky.
If you get a tick bite no matter where you are, put neosporin on it as soon as you can and then again every 12 hours. That will kill the bacteria that causes lyme. I just read it in a study they did somewhere.
It never use to be like this years ago. They are blaming it on global warming.
So be careful folks!

@ SageLife Thanks! The key is to seek out a doctor to prescribe antibiotics as soon as the rash around the bite gets bigger then a quarter. That way, it's possible to get rid of it alot quicker.

@ cedarbrooke I'm curious what your dog had for symptoms before he passed? I heard it affects dogs differently then people.
Also, try not to brush up against any tall grass or trees. Those little bugga's are pretty clever and they have alot of tricks to geting on bare skin.

@ billwfriend... They have a vaccine for dogs to prevent lyme but my vet said, it's only 70% effective.

@ finallyawakenow ........Alcohol wipes are just as good, I am told. Probably prevented you from getting it.

@ gramybear ...I took a tick into my doctor once....years ago...and she was annoyed. Gave me a soeach of how she believes antibiotics should be available otc because 90% of her patients came in with tick bites.
She said don't call me unless the rash gets bigger then a half dollar.

Enjoy the lobster dinner on the coast when you are able. We visited Old Orchard Beach, Portland Lighthouse, Acadia National Park, Sebago Lake, Cousins Island, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's home, and I'm sure, other places. These are off the top of my head.
I agree about the ticks being worse. I got one off my infant son many years ago, and my aunt put a homemade paste on it after cleaning it with an alcohol wipe. The red spot was gone within minutes and never thought about it again until today. All we were doing were taking a walk in the neighborhood and I went to the side of a vacant lot with the stroller to avoid being hit by a fast moving vehicle.
Sure is crazy times for sure. I know that when things calm down, whenever that is, I will definitely look at and live life differently. I am sorry for your lymes disease Bob. It has been quite some time since I have been here. Take care.
